Hawks trade LB Ruud to New Orleans

Signed as insurance during the offseason for a young linebackers group, the Seattle Seahawks traded Barrett Ruud to New Orleans for an undisclosed draft pick, the team announced on Monday.

The eight-year pro was limited during training camp because he’s recovering from groin, knee and shoulder injuries he suffered last season. He finished with a tackle last week against Denver.

Ruud, 29, played in only nine games in his first and only season in Tennessee last year, landing on the season-ending injured reserve with a groin issue.

The Seattle Seahawks confirmed this evening that the team has consummated a trade for Tampa Bay tight end Kellen Winslow Jr.

According to the team, Seattle gave up a conditional draft pick in 2013 to obtain Winslow.

UPDATE: ESPN’s Mike Sando reports Seattle gave up a seventh rounder that could be upgraded to a sixth rounder.

Winslow was asked by the Buccaneers not attend Organized Team Activities in Tampa Bay this week as the team worked to move him in a trade.

Winslow has three years remaining on his current contract and is due to make $3.3 million in base salary 2012.

RB Washington thought trade was a possiblity

New Seattle Seahawks running back Leon Washington said he was actually getting ready for a fishing trip off the coast of Long Island with former N.Y. Jets teammate tight end Chris Baker, now with Seattle, when he heard about the trade that has him now with the Seahawks.

“It’s kind of weird,” Washington said. “I was like, ‘Dude, we’re teammates now.’ So he told me I’d be very pleased about Seattle. He said everybody out there is great, and they’re a good organization looking to get back on track, and get back to a winning tradition. And I’m just happy to be a part of that.”

Washington, who signed his one-year, $1.76 million, second-round tender as a restricted free agent with the Jets a week before the draft, understood there was a chance he would be dealt this week.

“I sat down with the Jets and they told me there were no guarantees in this business,” Washington said. “They told me if the phone possibly rang it would be a possibility. I didn’t expect it, but I knew it was a possibility. So like I said before, its’ a great opportunity.”

Julian Peterson has been traded to the Detroit Lions

Just got the release from the Seahawks, and I don’t know if Eric is next to a computer to post this.

Peterson was dealt to Detroit for defensive tackle/end Cory Redding and an undisclosed draft pick.

UPDATE: Ok, I’ve figured out why Eric didn’t have something posted on the trade earlier – he’s out of the country. He’s in Canada with his family. Apparently they are buying a new family dog since their passed away a few months back. So that’s why this wasn’t up sooner. The one day the guy picks to be away from
