Good morning (barely).

Some quick links from today. I’m on UW football duty all day, but will check in on the blog from time to time. Thanks for all the feedback yesterday. There are two things I can guarantee: I’ll work very hard, and not everyone will be 100 percent happy with the changes on the blog. No way around that. We’ll have a lot of good stuff, though. I suppose that’s a third guarantee.

Remember, you can always e-mail me with thoughts, questions or concerns at todd.dybas@thenewstribune.com. Thanks.

Anyway, a few quick links:

> Here’s our story from Dave Boling on Russell Okung being out.

> The Florida Times-Union wrote about Russell Wilson, saying he took little time to take charge of the Seahawks.

> MMQB’s Andy Benoit analyzes this Sunday’s matchups and says the 19.5-point spread in the Seahawks’ game is justified.

> Amid the mess in San Francisco with Aldon Smith, Jim Harbaugh has another big matchup on his hands. This week, he faces Andrew Luck.

> Speaking of Smith, Carlos Rogers says he hopes Smith “doesn’t waste” his talent.

> St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnists wonder if the Rams can win in Dallas in this video.

Saw an updated salary cap as of Friday. Copied it starting at 13 with our NFC West opponent the Cards. The cool thing is the 49ers are in the third worst shape and I was really surprised to see the Rams as in the worst shape in the entire league. Bad news, I know the Hawks being at 3.2 million are going to lose some players this off season. But the Good news is by the looks it won’t be to a division foe.

    13. Arizona Cardinals – $4.346 million
    14. San Diego Chargers – $4.202 million
    15. Chicago Bears – $3.506 million
    16. Atlanta Falcons – $3.501 million
    17. Detroit Lions – $3.286 million
    18. Seattle Seahawks – $3.223 million
    19. New York Jets – $3.031 million
    20. Houston Texans – $3.02 million
    21. Oakland Raiders – $3.014 million
    22. Kansas City Chiefs – $2.647 million
    23. Dallas Cowboys – $2.207 million
    24. Minnesota Vikings – $2.172 million
    25. Baltimore Ravens – $1.975 million
    26. Washington Redskins – $1.812 million
    27. Indianapolis Colts – $1.713 million
    28. New Orleans Saints – $1.668 million
    29. Pittsburgh Steelers – $1.518 million
    30. San Francisco 49ers – $1.499 million
    31. New York Giants – $578,889
    32. St. Louis Rams – $284,786

  3. File this under schaudenfreude, but Harbaugh is not getting any love from the media down here in the bay area on the Smith mess:

    http://www.sfgate.com/49ers/article/49ers-Harbaugh-sends-wrong-message-on-Smith-s-DUI-4831978.php

Money quote: “But the next time Harbaugh wants to take the high road, the next time he acts holier-than-thou about some other team’s transgressions, it’s going to be difficult to stomach.”

Rooting hard for Luck tomorrow as SEA has the perfect opportunity this week to pad its lead in the NFCW with JAX in town. They just gotta take care of business…

  4. GeorgiaHawk says:

I feel for the Jags fans. Every team passed on Wilson at least twice and the jags picked a punter before him. Ouch!!!

  5. GeorgiaHawk says:

While the 49ers are in the process of imploding, I can’t help but enjoy this again-

It sucks to be a 49er fan right now. Lol-

  7. Much thanks Todd & Dave for making this blog THE place for true Seahawks fanatics to get the coverage we crave. Thanks to TNT also for keeping the blog free. The Times blog never had much substance and since Sando left the ESPN NFC West blog the Hawks news is few and far between over there. Seems to be 5 items on every other team to one for the Division leader Hawks. Guess their Hawks blogger Mr Blount has better things to do.
So anyway, the hard work and superb coverage is VERY much appreciated.

    Thanks

  8. thursday says:

Lol love that quote about Harbaugh. Feeling a bit smug that he’s getting his come-uppence. He might want to think a bit before he opens his mouth about other teams’ players in the future. And Idk about anyone else, but I’d rather players be getting in trouble for PEDs vs driving drunk and putting themselves in a position to kill someone.

  9. You’re right Georgia. It sucks being a Niner fan.

  10. JazBadAzz says:

Thanks GH I been looking for that link of Skip and Steven A. all week! bahahahaa

  11. GeorgiaHawk says:

No problem JazBadAzz, good to see you posting more.

    Go Hawks!!!

  12. JazBadAzz says:

I been working a lot, but I try to pop on much as possible now that I got a better smart phone!

  13. GeorgiaHawk says:

Off topic, but Wow! Huskies are thumping to the tune of 49-0. And it’s only in the third quarter. Nate must be happy about that.

And Todd has the best of both worlds right now.

  14. GeorgiaHawk says:

Does anyone else have a feeling that this game tomorrow will be similar to the Bills and Cardinals games at the end of the year last year?

    I do.

  15. JazBadAzz says:

The huskies beat up on my Illini last week, I feel like the Cardinals and Bills every Saturday! :-(

  16. SandpointHawk says:

Re Dawgs: Good lord they are playing Idaho State (who although they have beaten Dixie St and Western St this year) couldn’t beat West Seattle High School on a neutral field. Dawgs should score 100 points on those bozos…

  17. Great highlight video here of the SF beatdown.

  19. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Cool stuff- MNHawk & JazBadAzz!

    Go Hawks!!!

  20. raymaines says:

What was I thinking? Go Niners!!

Yesterday I wished the Colts the best of (L)luck in their game in and against San Francisco tomorrow. Shame on me. I’ve sobered up. I’m thinking clearly. I was wrong. So very, very wrong.

I really want the Seahawks to be undefeated and the 49′ers to be 11-1 on Dec. 8th. Then I want the Seahawks to kick some serious butt and be 13-0 going into week 14. Go ‘Hawks!!

  21. GeorgiaRay says:

Yeah GH, let me know when that list gets down to “Three-Things…” then I’ll start to believe the Jags might have an answer for what is to come tomorrow.

  22. chuck_easton says:

Looks like Seattle signed Hauptmann off of the Cleveland PS to take Okungs place on the 53.

The Moffitt trade is coming back to bite the team from a depth standpoint.

  23. freedom_X says:

Why? Moffitt can’t play tackle. I don’t think Seattle is haunted by the Moffitt trade in the slightest. If they had kept Moffitt they might have had to release someone with the potential to play tackle.

  24. chuck_easton says:

And signing a guy off someone else’s PS is better for depth?

  25. JazBadAzz says:

We will be playing with 52 guys tomorrow because the transaction will not go into effect until Monday. Moffit trade is a none factor, he would not be playing over Sweezy at this point. I honestly believe he will continue to have health problems and I don’t think he was fitting in to Cables teachings. This staff is superb at evaluating talent and there is no way they would have traded him if they saw any potential in Moffit.

Its bad enough all these teams bird dogging or transactions and Im sure if Moffit was released at the deadline he would have been picked up by a division foe! We are fine without him! #GOHAWKS

  26. raymaines says:

Actually, the ‘Hawks will be playing with 45 guys tomorrow. OK, maybe 46, I get confused.

  27. seatowntp says:

Here is my (not so) bold prediction for tomorrow.

    Poor Jags 6
    Go Hawks 51

The Jags will score two field goals.

  28. edstang45 says:

Thanks Georgiahawk and you other guys for the grreat links….fantastic stuff…
Gonna be a great game tomorrow Go Hawks

  29. I’m looking forward to seeing OB Schofield move back to Sam LB now that Avril and Clem are manning the Leo. We’ll finally start to see the kind of front seven they’ll play once Irvin is back.

    Go Seahawks

  30. rramstad says:

Side comment on Moffit. I think the team likely let him go because of locker room presence. I think the team is trying to be serious, very serious, committed, and treat every week like championship week. If there’s a joker in the locker room — while sometimes that can relieve pressure — it can also be hard to set the right tone. I suspect that he was having just a little too much fun at some point when the leadership wanted a more serious driven mood, and it created a tipping point where it made more sense to have Moffit leave than to keep him given what he was bringing to the table. Just a hunch.

  31. JazBadAzz says:

I was kinda hinting at that to rramstad, thanks for the better wording.
I just want to had Mike Rob to that theory with his realrobreport thing going on. PC is on more of the private side more than the majority of coaches when it comes to the in house stuff that keeps the guys motivated, coached up, and prepared…ect.

  32. regarding Moffitt getting traded…

I liked what Richard Sherman had to say in his MMQB blog recently. I think it probably applies to Moffitt as much as anyone:

“Getting cut was probably the last thing on Mike[Robinson]‘s mind most days. Same goes for Marcus Trufant two years ago. He was a former Pro Bowl cornerback, but he injured his back in 2011, leading to his eventual release and to me seeing the field during my rookie season. The only way NFL teams survive personnel losses — be they cuts or injuries — is a next-man-up mentality.

Seeing Marcus go was not a wakeup call for me, because my eyes were already open. I hope and suspect that seeing Mike go was not a wakeup call for my teammates: Anybody who needed a kick in the ass already got it on the way out the door.”

  33. Dukeshire says:

After now reviewing all defensive snaps for the Hawks their first two games two interesting things have revealed themselves: 1- Seattle has run a traditional 3-4 on six defensive snaps, and 2- the have yet to run an under front which means no Leo.

  34. JazBadAzz says:

    *add^^^post (auto correct problems)

Does anyone know what “illness” that kept Mike Rob from practicing during training camp?

  35. Break it down, Brother Duke. Get out the whiteboard!

  36. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Game day!

I’m looking for Wilson to get out to a faster start this game. I don’t know how he can get out to a slower start then this.

“In the opening quarters of the Seahawks’ first two games, Wilson is 1 of 12 for 1 yard.”

    Go Hawks!

  37. MikeFromNewJersey says:

Not only is it gameday, but today also happens to be my birthday. I’m one lucky guy as my parents bought me 2 tickets to the Dec. 15th game against the Giants and I have a hunch that my fiance is setting up a trip for us to take to Seattle in October for a game! I’m one happy and excited guy!!

  38. montanamike2 says:

I can’t sleep either even though it was a late night. I want to see the new guys more, especially Michaels. Kears and Williams showing up would be nice too along with a sprinkling, but not too much Clem. If MJD is out, and our group knows that they have to finish them along with the same compassion as putting a favorite pet to sleep because you have to win the easier games to have home field advantage. The Whiners have a short week and then play the Rams on Thursday. I think we double the spread on this one.

  39. GeorgiaHawk says:

I will take Wright for Branch and Sweezy/Simon for Curry any day.

  40. montanamike2 says:

MikeFromNewJersey happy birthday! Better birthday gifts than i’ve ever gotten so enjoy big time!

  41. GeorgiaHawk says:

Happy birthday MikeFromNewJersey. I hope it turns out just like Carroll’s did last Sunday.

  42. MikeFromNewJersey says:

Thanks guys, i am one lucky SOB!

  43. sluggo42 says:

    So Duke,

Does that end today with Clem’s return? Or, do you think that they have morphed into a more traditional 4-3 and are planning on using OB to occasionally crash the party.

What personnel stacks do you see coming with Clem’s return, and do you think he will play on First downs?

My brain keeps coming back to big red upending Lupadi . He came from the middle. I thought he was either RDE or off the field. This D-Line has me totally confused now …do they always keep two of the big boys on, red, mebane, mcD, with two speeders like Bennett, Avril, Clem, and the such?

  44. Sluggo, we’ve been thinking the same things. Has Red been moving in to DT more often in the first games? Will this change now that DTs are getting healthy? Will OB go back to Sam LB? I haven’t had much time to watch the rewind this year. Somebody get out the whiteboard!

  45. confucious says:

Mike from new jersey, I hear tell that the Superbowl is being held just down the road from you this year. What are the chances?

  46. confucious says:

The defensive line has been our weakest link for the last couple of years imho. I could not believe how well they played against SF. The speed on stunts was incredible. That was the finishing touch that the defense needed. Now for the offense to come up to speed.

  47. More Florida-Seattle connections:

DC Dan Quinn – FL Gators 2011-12
DT Tony McDaniel – Jax 2006-08, Miami 2009-12
    DT/(Tazmanian Devil) Michael Bennett – Tampa 2009-12

Thats a big chunk of our new D line composed of Florida boys.

  48. Hey, I found this great video online of Michael Bennett warming up for the game:
    http://youtu.be/dTMjbkjsL5g

  49. Dukeshire says:

Sluggo – I do think the 3-4s were a byproduct of the personnel. That is, so many d line injuries. But as far as the under fronts and Leo with Clem back, I’m skeptical. Seattle has run that defense less and less each season. I don’t see them kicking Clem out to the Leo but rather have him playing a traditional weak side end position, as he did most of last year. Especially if the rest of the line continues to provide pressure, as they did last week.

  50. JazBadAzz says:

    Happy Birthday MikeFromNewJersey!!!
