Carroll: Hawks will get after Bradford

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll talked to reporters for about a half hour this afternoon before practice.

He gave us a quick update on the injuries the team will be dealing with this week.

Carroll said Marcus Trufant (ankle), Mike Williams (shoulder), Brandon Mebane (calf) and Aaron Curry (hamstring) will not practice today, but as he stated on Monday, none have been ruled out for Sunday.

“We’re going to go like other guys are going to play for them until we can see them,” Carroll said. “But they’re talking like they’re going to make it. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Right now, Walter Thurmond would be the likely replacement for Trufant, while Will Herring would sub in for Curry and Junior Siavii or Kentwan Balmer would replace Mebane.

Morning links: Carroll tells the truth

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll (AP Photo/Elaine Thompson).

Dave Boling of The News Tribune reports that Seattle Seahawks head coach followed his own advice on “Tell the Truth Monday” in admitting that he may have been a bit bold in calling a quarterback draw on third-and-one from the 2-yard line.

Boling:

Monday, Carroll stood in front of the team and held himself accountable. It was Monday, after all, and he told the truth.

“We didn’t handle the half effectively and I was disappointed,” he said. “I really didn’t do that well.”
Carroll wanted to make a statement, to play aggressively, to power the ball into the end zone. Getting stonewalled and coming up empty forced him to re-evaluate his instincts.

“I realized that after all those years at USC, with our offenses being so dynamic, I got a little bold about our situation,” he said. “We need to take care of business better and I need to do a better job and make sure we get our points when we get our opportunities. They’re not always going to come around the way it used to seem like it happened.”

Yes, it’s an important lesson: The San Diego Chargers are not a Pacific-10 Conference opponent. Scoring opportunities are too precious in the NFL.

“We were too bold … so I’ll take note of that,” Carroll said.

Carroll says Okung will practice this week

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said most his team is mostly healthy after Sunday’s win over San Diego.

Carroll said his team has a few nicks and bruises.

Among those dinged up include WR Mike Williams (shoulder), DT Brandon Mebane (calf), CB Marcus Trufant (ankle), DE E.J. Wilson (knee) and LB Aaron Curry (hamstring).

All of those players are nursing injuries, but at this point have not been ruled out of Sunday’s game.

“We’ve got some guys we’ve got to mend,” Carroll said. “We’ll see how they do. We really don’t know how they are going to turn out until the end of the week.”
