Mike Wahle’s shoulder situation

I know this is the second Caddyshack reference in a month, but Wahle was wearing a pair of white shorts that looked exactly like the hat in the golf shop, where Rodney Dangerfield says, “Nice hat, you get a free bowl of soup with that hat?” When I brought it up to Wahle that his shorts had the same pattern, he asked when the interview would be over.

But we digress (if you can actually do that when it is your first item in a post).

Wahle said he will have surgery on his shoulder, but it is a scope instead of reconstruction, which means 3-4 months recovery instead of 8-9 months.

He said his shoulder was not injured on one play but seemed to deteriorate over the long term, in part because his range of motion has been so severely reduced since he had surgery to repair a torn labrum. When I asked him if it was a concern that he may have a chronically deteriorating shoulder — meaning his strength would continue to wane no matter what as his career advanced — he said he is viewing this surgery as hopefully correcting whatever happened in the last surgery that restricted his range of motion.

He said he does not yet have a date for when his surgery will be performed.

He said it has been very tough to go on IR when he sees what his teammates are going through, but hopefully this is something the team endures in one season and then gets through with all the injuries in the future. He’ll continue to come in and be a source of support and advice for his teammates.
