Justin Forsett quotes

(On whether he will sleep well tonight…) I’m pretty sore, so I’m going to sleep like a baby tonight. In the morning, I hope I won’t get up too early. Just sleep in a little bit and see what happens.

(On how the wind affected his fumbled punt…) I didn’t put my arms together, and the ball came right through my arms. I didn’t put my elbows together, and that’s what happens when you don’t do the little things. I was ready to try to get it upfield. I tried to bounce back from it, and I went out there and gave it my all for the rest of the game, and I feel like I did.

(On bouncing back from a bad play…) You can look at it two ways. I can either try to get better and focus in more and make better plays, or I can just go in a hole, or in the tank, and then things will just keep going down hill. You can’t do that in this league. You have to have a short memory and keep going.

(On his experience in the NFL so far…) It’s been fun. Not knowing if anybody was going to give me an opportunity during the draft; somebody finally gave me an opportunity and I’m trying to make the most of it. I am just happy to be here.

  1. TechWorlds says:

had you not fumbled in the last few days you would still be here. I was rooting for you kid, but you failed to beat anyone out in the last few weeks.

  2. derekyoung says:

He’s fun to watch. I’d love for the Hawks to find a way to keep and develop him. Good luck Fors!

  3. misleduser says:

i think he will at least stay on the practice squad i hope he does i mean duckett fumbled twice in the first game and he is a vet this guy you can mold into a great back we have all seen brillance in the way he plays the 2 mistakes well does not matt hassleback throw interseptions if we where judging on a few mistakes i think matt would be gone after 06 when he threw all those int in a matter of weeks and got injured i think u got to let justin stick around i think he may be a real good back someday i routin for ya justin

  4. misleduser says:

about above im not doggin on matt im just using that for a example hes my fav player

  5. RichmondHawk says:

I think people’s hopes for Forsett got a little over-blown. He’ll be a good change of pace back but that’s it. He’s somewhat elusive but doesn’t really have “Chris Johnson” speed. Getting huge yards against 3rd and 4th line players is great but that doesn’t guarantee you much against 1st teamers who are faster, stronger and bigger.

At this point, I don’t think they’ll lose a “star” if they try and sneak him onto the playing squad. For a player of his size and strength he needs to be faster.

  6. funballad says:

Justin did well post fumble. but not well enough to insure his spot with all the quality players to choose from Holmy has some tough decisions to make. I think he will be picked up by someone else if he is cut loose and will never make it to our practice squad too bad i really like the future for forsett.

  7. D_Master says:

So maybe the Seahawks aren’t sold on Forsett being the return guy. I think the bigger question is, did Frye establish himself as a number 2 QB? If so, Seneca “the great” Wallace can return punts and kickoffs.
Frank, ask Mike Holmgren if Frye has earned a number two spot; that would be interesting for Seneca.

  8. stormshadow says:

Seneca is the #2 QB, period.

Even if the coaching staff feels comfortable with Frye, he would still be the #3. People get confused on this point. They just have to feel sure that the team could function and maybe win with Frye, if Seneca got hurt being a WR or KR, and then God forbid Matt got hurt too.

So even if they start using Seneca in those ways, he is still the main backup to Matt.

  9. Seahawks 53-Man Roster Prediction

    Offense (26)
QB (3) – Matt Hasselbeck, Seneca Wallace, Charlie Frye
HB/FB (5) – Julius Jones, T.J. Duckett, Maurice Morris, Leonard Weaver, David Kirtman
WR (6) – Deion Branch, Nate Burleson, Bobby Engram, Courtney Taylor, Jordan Kent, Logan Payne
TE (3) – John Carlson, Jeb Putzier, Will Heller
OL (9) – Walter Jones, Sean Locklear, Chris Spencer, Rob Sims, Mike Wahle, Ray Willis, Mansfield Wrotto, Floyd Womack, Steve Vallos

    Defense (24)
DE (5) – Patrick Kerney, Darryl Tapp, Lawrence Jackson, Jason Babin, Baraka Atkins
DT (5) – Rocky Bernard, Brandon Mebane, Red Bryant, Craig Terrill, Howard Green
LB (6) – Lofa Tatupu , Julian Peterson, Leroy Hill, D.D. Lewis, Lance Laury, David Hawthorne
S (4) – Deon Grant, Brian Russell, Jordan Babineaux, C.J. Wallace
CB (4) – Marcus Trufant, Kelly Jennings, Josh Wilson, Kevin Hobbs

    Special Teams (3)
    K – Olindo Mare
    P – Ryan Plackemeier
    LS – Jeff Robinson

+ DT Larry Tripplett if Deion Branch starts the season on the PUP List

    Practice Squad (9)
    OT Samuel Gutekunst
    RB Justin Forsett
    FB Owen Schmitt
    WR Michael Bumpus
    TE Joe Newton
    OL Kyle Williams
    LB Dallas Sartz
    S Jamar Adams
    DT Kevin Brown
    CB Marquis Floyd

Gutekunst is an international player exemption. One of the other guys obviously can’t make it (most likely Floyd or Williams) unless Forsett gets picked up off waivers by another team.

  10. Any reason you prefer Kirtman? He’s never stood out to me. And with him out, you could have either Forsett or Schmitt.

  11. hawkdawg says:

They will NOT keep Kirtman over Schmitt on the active roster. I doubt they’ll keep him over Forsett.

  12. Forsett will stay since Obo is out. They’re not going to start training new people to return kicks at this late date.

And yeah, re: Frye, there was never a competition for #2 QB – Seneca is it, has been it, and will always be #2. It was only to see if Frye could not totally F it up if called on in a punch.

I think it’s gonna be Schmitt in over Kirtman, otherwise that list looks pretty good.

  13. My only quibbles would be Kirtman / Schmitt and C.J. Wallace / Jamar Adams

Are you putting Ben Obomanu on IR?

Well okay, one more quibble; does LB Dallas Sartz even get invited to the practice squad?

  14. Billy Watson
Why did you italicize Kyle Williams and Marquis Floyd? Are they the likely ones replaced if TR finds other players waived?

  15. IDHawkman says:

We don’t have to train someone else to return kicks, Wilson can do it – he did it last year – one for a TD even.

  16. The team will likely go with Schmitt, but I’m sticking with Kirtman. Kirtman is a better special teams player and a better fullback right now. Schmitt has the tools to eventually be better, so its a judgment call.

I doubt anyone will grab Schmitt off the practice squad and he just isn’t ready to contribute in every way needed from a backup fullback.

The Seahawks absolutely need a LB on the practice squad if they only keep 6 on the active roster. They won’t be able to practice otherwise.

I gave the Seahawks 10 guys on the practice squad. They need a DB, so it is probably going to be Jamar Adams – however, it would be nice to have a CB and Marquis Floyd looked pretty good. Realistically, there probably isn’t room for both.

2 offensive linemen is almost a necessity as well, but Kyle Williams seems to be getting worse, not better. I don’t see anyone else outside of the 9 that will make the team even worth a spot on the practice squad.

  17. Pretty sure teams are only allowed 8 on the PS…

  18. pharrisr says:

What if we dropped one of the Tight Ends and kept Forsett. Didn’t Schmitt play some TE before? He could be the 3rd string there. Just a thought, whatcha think peeps?

  19. hawkdawg says:

I would take Schmitt over Kirtman, straight up, right now. No future tripping needed. Schmitt is bigger, stronger and a better lead blocker, with more athleticism to boot. The Hawks will keep him active.

Kirtman appears to be better than he has been. But he had a long way to go.

  20. Pretty sure teams are only allowed 8 on the PS…
The Seahawks get 9 including Samuel Gutekunst

That was my point with the italics and the statements I made. One guy has to go from that list of 10 assuming everyone else clears waivers (and Schmitt doesn’t make the team).

  21. Dukeshire says:

If they cut Forsett, I’ll understand why. I always thought it would be odd for them to keep 3 of the same kind of backs. However, it makes me wonder what else could he have possibly done to make this team? I hope they find a way to keep him (because he’ll never make his way through wavers to the ps) but I can’t see it.
Billy Watson: For what it’s worth, I agree with your roster except for Kirtman, he’s gone, Schmitt’s in.

  22. Dukeshire says:

Probably not much to report today.

  23. northoftheborder says:

this is why this blog has become such a joke… the day of cuts and the guy who runs the blog doesn’t even post anything about the roster cuts… who he thinks will make it, what positions are most up in the air, etc…. there is no point in even coming to this blog anymore… all he is going to do is post the cuts when they happen which we can all find on any site…

  24. IDHawkman says:

He posted his predictions already (last night). The cuts are not due until 3pm Pacific time so relax. If you want the news faster you might want to check out the NFL web site here:

    http://blogs.nfl.com/category/news/

Otherwise, he’s got to wait for the team to release it to the public.

  25. Dukeshire says:

The thing is, that even thought there may not be any new information to report, it’s important to your readers to know you are there. Granted, he did post his predictions last night, but this is a big day. I’ve never felt this kind of anticipation about cuts before, and I imagine I’m not alone, one would think Frank could pick up on that and just check in. But as soon as they are announced, none of this will mater anyway.

  26. Where are Frank’s predictions?

  27. Dukeshire says:

All apologies, it was Dave Boling, Roster Speculations.

  28. That’s OK, as of 3:40 pm Sando doesn’t have the infor either. Meaning it isn’t available to anybody yet.

  29. D_Master:So maybe the Seahawks aren’t sold on Forsett being the return guy.

That’s not the problem. The Seahawks coaching staff isn’t dumb enough to overreact to a couple of fumbles any more than they are likely to go all gooey eyed over one big game in the pre-season. It’s fans that do that. I think they’d like to keep both Forsett and Bumpus, simply because of the work ethic they brought with them to training camp. The problem is that their current roster situation kind of prohibits that sort of luxury. It takes a lot of players to staff your special teams. Most of them have to do double duty as backups, subs or extra positions in special alignments (you know, 4 and 5 wide sets, nickel and dime defensive packages,… that sort of thing). How can Justin Forsett add anything to your roster depth when the team already has three experienced tailbacks?

You know teams already need to carry a guy that only kicks, another who only punts, a long snapper and so forth. I suppose, on a nicely balanced team you can find a spot for a guy who only returns kicks and does nothing else. Heck, some teams have carried two kickers, using one for kickoffs and one for field goals. The Seahawks aren’t in that situation at the moment. They’ve got injured guys taking up roster spots and O-Line backups who, regardless of what you may think, are far too raw to start. I’d say they don’t have room for a guy who only returns kicks. They have other guys who can return kicks (like Josh Wilson) who already do double duty on the team.

thedude:Forsett will stay since Obo is out.

How does a season ending injury to a wide receiver open up a roster spot for a forth string tailback?

  30. IDHawkman says:

They were the two being considered for punt returns this year. That’s how.

Although I’m not sold on this idea, it has “some” validity to it.

  31. NickHawk1 says:

    Billy Watson,

    YOU FAIL

  32. RichmondHawk says:

Yeah, I think Schmitt won the job after the 1st or 2nd preseason game; although, they kept Kirtman running with the 2nd team. I guess there is not much difference being a FB in the 2nd or 3rd team.
