Predicting the first cuts

I know, I know, there still is a game to be played tonight that could have a bearing on the decisions tomorrow. But let’s be honest, the cut from 80 to 75 is a bit of a joke. It’s almost like they threw something in there to keep it interesting for a day. Why not just wait until the end of the week and keep everybody around until then. Anyway, since they have to cut 5 spots tomorrow, here’s who they could be:

OL William Robinson: I’m not exactly sure why he is still around, other than they haven’t been able to come to an injury settlement with him. But he was not doing very well when he was healthy, and now he is just taking up space on the roster.

OL Nick Jones: He injured his calf on Friday, which could mean a little extra in an injury settlement as well.

WR Trent Shelton: We haven’t seen much of him lately, and the other receivers need all the work they can get.

LS Tim Lindsey: This is assuming, of course, that Tyler Schmitt is able to come back from his sore back.

CB Marquis Floyd: He came in late after Derrick Johnson got hurt on his third play of his first practice, and he may be departing early.

    Great…

Any word on what kind of workload Forsett will get tonight against the Chargers?

    I’m hoping for tons…

    Thanks a lot Frank

  2. sscotchman says:

Well, I guess that was an easy five…lol…thanks Frank.

    Frank-
This is off-topic but I am wondering if you have any interesting anecdotes about players who may actually read this board. Have any players ever commented to you that they read this?

I can imagine players on the fringe being interested in what the media perception of their chances is. Or simply players interested in reading anything that is written about them (as I would be).

  4. Dukeshire says:

I would preferr to see Forsett work with the first team, even if that means limited touches. Either way, I’m pretty excited for a preseason game.

  5. I can’t see Lindsey being cut until T. Schmitt can play, so he survives another week; but I could see WR-Gilmore being cut after tonight. I’d think the team will keep C- Jones around at least another week just to see if his calf injury is healing. It could be possible we’ll see Herring IR’d or PUP’d as could be the case with Branch being PUP’d.

  6. I know players/coaches used to read it during the Sando era. I would assume some would still read it.

  7. Dukeshire says:

Careful snydro, there can be a heavy backlash for that kind of language.

  8. Apologies if this has already been posted here, but I just did some poking around and found the Seahawks rank #1 in NFL pre-season play in:

    Rushing yards/game
    Pts/game
    Total yards/game
    Rushing yards against/game

    We’re #4 in in Total yards against/game.

That’s pretty cool, even for pre-season stats. It will be interesting to see if we can run effectively against San Diego. Maybe all this bluster back and forth about RBs is wasted energy if we have a “Denver-like” blocking scheme that makes any serviceable RB a threat for 1200 yards.

  9. Tuesday’s cuts will be Filani WR, Bell QB, Shelton WR, Tafisi DE, Brown DT, and Guterhunst OL.

  10. ALASKANSEAHAWK says:

I thought that tackle from Gemrany Greunenholst or whatever his name was didn’t count agains the 80 man roster because of the europe deveolpment program?

  11. JimWilke says:

Did snydro finally get booted? Fine with me.

When do the ‘Hawks have to make their decisions on the PUP list?

  12. doubledink says:

I would think any athelete reading the press clippings would be bad mojo.

You can’t be worried about what others outside the organization think of you. As Knox put it, “You are never as good or as bad as they say you are.”
