Newcomers arrive at UW for LEAP, summer school

It’s that time of year again, when incoming University of Washington freshmen athletes (and other newcomers) begin their participation in LEAP — the Learning Experience Achievement Program, designed to help “bridge” the transition between high school and college for student-athletes.

Anyway, below is a list of each incoming Huskies football player who is either participating in LEAP — freshmen only — or is otherwise enrolled in summer school. The only exceptions from UW’s 2015 signing class are long-snapper A.J. Carty (Servite High School/Santa Ana, Calif.) and defensive end Myles Rice (Bush High School/Richmond, Texas), both of whom have reportedly decided to greyshirt, delaying their enrollment until at least January. Rice, you might recall, tore his anterior-cruciate ligament in October.

Budda Baker: “At the end of the day, this was my gut feeling”

Budda Baker unveiled his commitment to the University of Washington Tuesday on KING-5 on Tuesday, but made it official with a fax Wednesday morning.

I trekked to Bellevue High to speak with the state of Washington’s top-ranked recruit at 7 this morning. Baker said UW coach Chris Peterson told him he would play free safety and include him in a package on offense as well.

Keith Price sends ill-advised text to Arizona linebacker

With the Huskies set to open Pacific-12 Conference play this week against visiting Arizona, UW quarterback Keith Price figured he’d send at text message to his good friend Marquis Flowers, a linebacker for the Wildcats.

“I told him, ‘We got you this week,’” Price said.

Flowers remembered sacking Keith Price in the third quarter of the Wildcats’ 52-17 drubbing of the Huskies last season. He forced Price to fumble on the play and recovered it himself.

Flowers thought he’d remind Price of his place.
