A few reports on Jim Mora contact with UW

It made sense that Jim Mora was one of the first names to pop up as a possible candidate for Washington’s newly-vacant head coaching position. It likely will any time the UW job comes open while Mora is still coaching football.

But there are a few different reports out there about contact between Mora and the school. First, FootballScoop.com, which usually has a pretty accurate read on these things, reported that Mora was thought to be meeting with UW athletic director Scott Woodward tonight, though it’s unclear if that meant a face-to-face visit or a phone call.

UW releases statement on Sarkisian’s departure

Here’s the official statement UW released this afternoon about Steve Sarkisian’s departure.

SEATTLE – Steve Sarkisian has accepted the position as head football coach at USC and will begin his duties with the Trojans immediately.

Sarkisian spent five seasons as Washington’s head coach, leading the Huskies to four bowl trips, including a yet-to-be-determined game this year. In five years, he compiled a record of 34-29, including an 8-4 overall mark this year. Read more »

With Sarkisian leaving, here are three candidates to keep in mind

With Steve Sarkisian gone to USC, the discussion now turns to who the Huskies might hire to replace him as head coach. Here are a few possibilities.

Name: Jim Mora

Position: Head coach, UCLA (second season)

Background: Played at UW as a walk-on defensive back, then served there as a graduate assistant for one season before moving on to an NFL coaching career that included head jobs in Atlanta and Seattle. Hired by UCLA after Rick Neuheisel was fired following 2011 season. Read more »

Reports: Steve Sarkisian leaving Washington for USC

Multiple outlets, including Joe Schad of ESPN.com, are reporting that Steve Sarkisian has accepted the head coaching position at USC and will leave Washington. We have yet to confirm on our end.
