Former Washington point guard Tony Wroten was sent to the D League on Tuesday. He’s expected to join the Reno Bighorns today and be available to play Friday night versus the Santa Cruz Warriors.

Wroten, who left Washington following his freshman season when he was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, was second on the team in scoring and set the school record for turnovers, was drafted 25th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies (10-2) have a veteran group and the NBA’s best record.

As expected, talented freshman guard Tony Wroten has decided to forgo his final three years of eligibility and enter the NBA draft. Wroten will sign with an agent, making it impossible for him to return.

The conference awards are finally out and head coach Lorenzo Romar was named coach of the year and Tony Wroten was named freshman of the year. I’m sure Husky fans will be upset about Terrence Ross or Tony Wroten not winning player of the year. Yes, Jorge Gutierrez’s stats aren’t as good, and he two bad last games, but coaches vote on this and coaches love Gutierrez. Realistically, this vote wasn’t just based on this year, but his entire four years at California. Could Ross and Wroten have canceled each other out? Tony Wroten was named one of five finalists for the 2012 Wayman Tisdale Award voted on by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. The award goes to the nation’s top freshman.

Joining Wroten as finalists are Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist of Kentucky, Cody Zeller of Indiana and Austin Rivers of Duke.
