As Day 4 of Washington’s coaching search nears lunchtime, we have a few links and notes to pass along.
— As first reported this morning by a few outlets, UW linebackers coach Peter Sirmon is leaving UW for USC, a source within the program confirmed to the News Tribune. Defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox and defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi are also expected to join Steve Sarkisian’s staff at USC, but there is still some uncertainty there. Read more »
This much is known: Marques Tuiasosopo will coach the Washington Huskies in a bowl game.
Beyond that … well, stay tuned.
Washington is scheduled to practice on Friday and Saturday, I’m told. Not sure if those will be partially open, totally open, totally closed or what. There should be some form of media availability in the coming days. Would imagine we’ll hear soon. Read more »
Marques Tuiasosopo, the Washington Huskies’ quarterbacks coach this season, has been named interim head coach for UW’s bowl game.
That game will likely be the Fight Hunger Bowl, which is played Dec. 27 in San Francisco. But the Huskies won’t know for sure where they’re headed until those decisions are made on Sunday.
What they do know is that Tuiasosopo will be their head coach for whichever bowl game they play in. Tuiasosopo, 34, coached quarterbacks at UW this season after coaching tight ends at UCLA in 2012. He played quarterback at UW from 1997-2000, leading that 2000 team to a Rose Bowl championship and an 11-1 record. He is considered one of the most successful quarterbacks in school history, and is also one of the most popular. Read more »
OK, OK. So this isn’t exactly the kind of hard news you’re looking for in the middle of Washington’s football coaching search.
But because people are talking about it, and it’s an entertaining/interesting — even if unrealistic — idea, we’ll go ahead and pass along this interview former Seahawks/Packers coach Mike Holmgren did with Sports Radio KJR earlier this afternoon.
The hosts, Ian Furness and Jason Puckett, jokingly asked Holmgren, who appears regularly on their show, if he would want to coach the Huskies in their bowl game. The conversation starts at about the 17:20 mark in the clip posted above. Read more »
A pair of Washington Huskies assistants will reportedly interview for the vacant head coaching job.
According to Football Scoop, UW athletic director Scott Woodward will interview UW quarterbacks coach Marques Tuiasosopo. The former UW quarterback is completing his first season on the Huskies coaching staff. He was hired last offseason after spending the previous two seasons on the staff of UCLA, first as a graduate assistant, then as tight ends coach.

Good morning. Day 2 of life without Steve Sarkisian is upon the University of Washington. The biggest news yesterday came from UCLA, which announced a contract extension for coach Jim Mora. To the links …
— Here’s our story in today’s newspaper, updating where UW stands with Mora seemingly out of the picture.
— Sarkisian was introduced at USC yesterday, and said he wished he’d been more forthcoming during that KJR interview on Monday.
