Quoting Chris Petersen after Huskies spring finale

Here’s everything Huskies coach Chris Petersen told reporters after Saturday’s final spring practice at Husky Stadium.

(Looked like defense was really ballhawking out there) “I need to go see why. I love that, when our defense is doing that. Sometimes I think we may have made it a little bit too easy on them. Really need to put the tape in to go see exactly why. Our defense did a great job last year of getting a lot of turnovers. Somehow that needs to continue.” Read more »

Day 13: Huskies practice without pads on sunny day on Montlake

The Huskies’ 13th practice of the spring was a less physical affair, as they wore only helmets, jerseys and shorts — no pads — on another sunny, clear day at Husky Stadium.

Here are a few notes, as usual.

— The personnel update: DL Vita Vea joined the group of players sidelined by injury, wearing a hefty brace on his right knee. WR John Ross III, DB Trevor Walker, DB Jermaine Kelly, LB Keishawn Bierria, LB Travis Feeney, OL Coleman Shelton, OL Dexter Charles remain out or limited. DB Kevin King actually put on a helmet and went through a few drills, but is also still very limited and was wearing a brace on his right knee. DBs Brandon Lewis and Brandon Beaver are still wearing yellow, no-contact jerseys, but they participated fully. And TE Drew Sample is still in yellow, too. I did not see OL Cory Fuavai. Read more »

Day 11: Naijiel Hale snags two interceptions at Huskies spring practice

It was another picturesque day at Husky Stadium, where the Huskies commenced their 11th practice of the spring. They’ll go again on Saturday, then will have two more workouts next week before the April 25 spring preview. Here are a few notes and such from Friday’s practice.

— First, the personnel update: OL John Turner joined the legion of players sidelined or limited by injury, accompanying OL Andrew Kirkland, OL Coleman Shelton, DB Jermaine Kelly, DB Kevin King, DB Trevor Walker, LB Keishawn Bierria, LB Travis Feeney, WR John Ross III and OL Dexter Charles, who was present but didn’t suit up. OL coach Chris Strausser said Charles isn’t full-go, and that while he could probably play if he had to, he’s simply being held out because spring practice isn’t as important for him as for some of the younger players. TE Drew Sample is still in a yellow, no-contact jersey, as are defensive backs Brandon Beaver and Brandon Lewis. Read more »

Day 10: Deontae Cooper returns to practice; Jeff Lindquist scores long TD run

Hard to imagine an April morning nicer than what we saw at Husky Stadium today. Sunny and blue skies throughout the Huskies’ 10th practice of the spring. Here are some notes and observations from the full-pads session.

— A few personnel notes: sixth-year senior RB Deontae Cooper, who had been home in California tending to a family matter, practiced for the first time this spring. John Ross continues to participate in a limited capacity — he’s still not in pads — and TE Drew Sample also returned to practice in a limited capacity, wearing a yellow, no-contact jersey and going through some drills after being sidelined completely for the last few workouts. OL Devin Burleson also appeared to be able to do a little more, and is no longer in yellow. Those still unavailable: DB Jermaine Kelly, DB Kevin King, DB Trevor Walker, LB Keishawn Bierria, LB Travis Feeney, OL Coleman Shelton and OL Andrew Kirkland. And OL Dexter Charles was again present early, but did not suit up. He’s been leaving practice early to attend class. Read more »

Day 9: John Ross participates; defense gets better of offense again at Huskies spring practice

Washington’s ninth practice of the spring wrapped up a little while ago at a windy, chilly, but dry Husky Stadium. Here are some notes and observations, as always.

— Third-year sophomore offensive tackle Andrew Kirkland did not participate today, and wore a walking boot on his left foot. He joined DB Kevin King, DB Jermaine Kelly, DB Trevor Walker, OL Coleman Shelton, LB Keishawn Bierria, LB Travis Feeney and TE Drew Sample on the sideline. DB Brandon Lewis, DB Brandon Beaver and OL Devin Burleson are wearing yellow, no-contact jerseys but still participating a bit (Feeney is in yellow, too, but doing less than the others). RB Deontae Cooper is still absent. OL Dexter Charles left early again to attend class. Read more »
