Wilcox 2nd team All-Pac 12, no Huskies on first team

C.J. Wilcox was named to the All Pac-12 second team on Monday. No Huskies made the 10-member first team.

Cal’s Allen Crabbe was named Player of the Year, Oregon’s Dana Altman is Coach of the Year, and UCLA’s Shabazz Muhammad shares Freshman of the Year honors with Jahii Carson.

The last time Washington didn’t have a first-team All-Pac-10/12 player was 2003.

Not too deep to look to realize Washington’s problems against UCLA.

The Huskies (17-14, 9-9) committed 19 turnovers and were outscored 29-9 in points off turnovers during a 61-54 loss to the Bruins Saturday morning in Hec Ed. It was a similar effort to the one in Los Angeles.

UCLA coach Ben Howland said that Travis Wear, who has a bum ankle, will start Saturday morning for the Bruins. He also said that UCLA sat down after practice Friday in Hec Ed and watched the entire Washington State game, during which it was blown out for much of the night in a stunning 73-61 loss Wedneday.

As for Washington, Lorenzo Romar said everyone is healthy and that he doesn’t expect to see the version of the Bruins

At least the Pac-12 isn’t boring.

Saturday night was another evening of unpredictable basketball in the conference. Arizona State went into Colorado and won on a layup at the buzzer. Washington State led most of the night against Oregon before it fell in overtime. UCLA slowed Stanford.

Two big conference boosts on Friday: Colorado beat 16th-ranked Baylor 60-58 and UCLA won its battle to get Shabazz Muhammad eligible.

Let’s start with the game. Colorado shot 4-for-19 at the free-throw line and won. Read that again. The Buffs gave away 15 points and beat the 16th-ranked team in the country on a neutral floor in South Carolina. Askia Booker scored 19 for Colorado. Andre Roberson scored seven and grabbed 12 rebounds.

The Huskies have a fight in front of them to get back on top of the Pac-12.

The Pac-12 media poll was released Thursday and defending regular-season champion Washington was picked fifth, though also received two votes to win the conference. Media have correctly picked the conference winner 12 times in 20 tries. Here’s the poll, plus a look at previous polls:
