Morning links: Plenty to read on New Year’s Eve

Good morning, Auld Lang Syne, etc.

It’s New Year’s Eve, which means it’s time for champagne, party hats and a few hundred variations of the song posted above.

And this year, it also means a bunch of Monday-after-the-season-finally-ends news out of Montlake. Here come some links.

Justin Wilcox, Marques Tuiasosopo officially added to USC coaching staff

Apologies for getting to this late. Was out to dinner.

Anyway, what was expected for some time was made official on Monday night, as former Washington defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox and quarterbacks coach/interim coach Marques Tuiasosopo were announced as new members of Steve Sarkisian’s coaching staff at USC.

Wilcox will be USC’s defensive coordinator. Tuiasosopo will coach tight ends.

Report: Justin Wilcox expected to take job at USC after bowl game

Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports reports what has been rumored and expected for a while now — that Washington defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox will leave UW for USC to fill the same position there after the Huskies’ bowl game tonight.

Wilcox was thought to be headed to USC as soon as Steve Sarkisian took the head coaching job there, but his $1 million buyout at UW was reportedly an issue for the Trojans. It’s not clear if USC has agreed to pay the buyout, or if new UW coach Chris Petersen decided he didn’t want to retain Wilcox on his staff. Read more »


Reports: Four Boise State assistants (so far) coming with Chris Petersen

Now that Boise State has made its new football coaching hire — it’s Bryan Harsin, the former BSU offensive coordinator who coached most recently at Arkansas State — we should soon receive word from Washington regarding Chris Petersen’s new staff of assistant coaches.

Some of that news is already starting to leak out. Chadd Cripe of the Idaho Statesman reported on Twitter earlier today that running backs coach Keith Bhonapha, defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski, offensive line coach Chris Strausser and defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake.
