Chris Petersen excited about first UW signing day

Chris Petersen seemed excited about some of the OKGs (Our Kind of Guys) he has spoken of so often when referring to his first recruiting class at the University of Washington.

Petersen couldn’t hold his extreme excitement for signing Bellevue’s Budda Baker very well. He said Baker is a need in the secondary with the loss of so many players from that position and is looking forward to him seeing immediate playing time. Baker might also get some looks in a couple offensive packages and in the return game as he gains more experience.

Budda Baker: “At the end of the day, this was my gut feeling”

Budda Baker unveiled his commitment to the University of Washington Tuesday on KING-5 on Tuesday, but made it official with a fax Wednesday morning.

I trekked to Bellevue High to speak with the state of Washington’s top-ranked recruit at 7 this morning. Baker said UW coach Chris Peterson told him he would play free safety and include him in a package on offense as well.

National Signing Day live thread

— We’re settled at the airport, and can finally pass along the most recent UW signings: offensive lineman John Turner (Los Angeles) and defensive lineman Will Dissly (Bozeman, Mont.). Naijiel Hale, a 4-star cornerback from Lakewood, Calif., has signed his letter. Hale is the son of late rapper Nate Dogg, and played at the same

We’ll still track each letter as it comes in this morning in a separate thread I’ll post in a bit.

Now, some links. Read more »

Budda Baker, Northwest’s top recruit, says he’ll play for Washington

First, Budda Baker said in December that he was going to play for Oregon.

But the Bellevue athlete changed his mind, re-opened his recruitment and said he’d decide instead between Washington and UCLA.

And after scheduling a 1 p.m. announcement for Wednesday, then changing that time to 7 a.m. Wednesday, Baker pushed his announcement up once more, announcing live on KING5 in Seattle a short while ago that he will, indeed, stay home and play football for the Washington Huskies. Read more »
