Some sad news out of Montlake today as it was announced that Abner Thomas, a longtime special assistant, mentor and counselor on Washington’s football support staff, died Sunday. He was 86.
Anyone who attended UW football practices would likely recognize Thomas, who greeted reporters and other practice attendees throughout the years with a smile and a warm hello.
Thomas’ death prompted an outpouring of remembrances from current and former UW athletes, coaches and others who came into contact with him during his 26-year tenure with the football program.
