A few college football postseason awards announced their preseason watch lists today — more will roll out over the next week or two — and three Washington Huskies players were included in the initial batch.

LB Shaq Thompson, OLB Hau’oli Kikaha and DT Danny Shelton were each named to the 76-player watch list for the Bednarik Award, which seeks each season to honor the top defensive player in the country.

Thompson, who is likely to see at least a little time at running back in 2014, was also named to the 47-player Paul Hornung Award watch list. The Hornung Award is given each season to the nation’s most versatile player. UCLA LB/RB Myles Jack was a finalist last season.

No Huskies were named to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is awarded annually to the nation’s top offensive player.
