It was just one individual drill, but as you can see above, that’s linebacker Shaq Thompson in the white No. 7 jersey taking handoffs in a running backs drill during Washington’s second spring practice on Thursday morning.

Thompson wasn’t made available to reporters afterward, and coach Chris Petersen wasn’t scheduled to speak, either. But Petersen did say on Monday that Thompson spending some time at running back was a possibility, so it’s not all that surprising to see Thompson getting some drill work in. He was, after all, a star running back in high school.

“He’s a monster. It’s going to be real unique to see him run the ball,” cornerback Marcus Peters said. “Everybody talks about Myles Jack running the ball, but Shaq Thompson really can run that ball.”

Sophomore receiver John Ross, who dabbled at cornerback last season, also spent some time working with the defense on Thursday.
