First, Budda Baker said in December that he was going to play for Oregon.
But the Bellevue athlete changed his mind, re-opened his recruitment and said he’d decide instead between Washington and UCLA.
And after scheduling a 1 p.m. announcement for Wednesday, then changing that time to 7 a.m. Wednesday, Baker pushed his announcement up once more, announcing live on KING5 in Seattle a short while ago that he will, indeed, stay home and play football for the Washington Huskies.
“I’m just a big family person. Family always comes first,” Baker said, shortly after putting on a UW hat and revealing that he was wearing a UW t-shirt. “I’ll be close to my family. They’ll be able to come see me play. It’s just a true blessing.”
Of new UW coach Chris Petersen, Baker said: “He’s a great guy. He reminds me of coach Butch (Goncharoff), so that was a big thing with me. He’s sowing a lot of discipline and I just can’t wait to go play for him.”
Baker is considered a 4-star recruit and ranked by recruiting services as one of the best defensive backs in the 2014 class. He’s classified as an “athlete,” but it’s expected that he will play defense in college.
In case you’re unfamiliar, here’s Baker’s bio from Scout.com.
