A pair of Washington Huskies assistants will reportedly interview for the vacant head coaching job.

According to Football Scoop, UW athletic director Scott Woodward will interview UW quarterbacks coach Marques Tuiasosopo. The former UW quarterback is completing his first season on the Huskies coaching staff. He was hired last offseason after spending the previous two seasons on the staff of UCLA, first as a graduate assistant, then as tight ends coach.

Tuiasosopo was also a strength and conditioning assistant at UW during Steve Sarkisian’s first two years as coach.

His playing pedigree, of course, is well known. Tuiasosopo quarterbacked the 2000 UW team to a Rose Bowl championship and an 11-1 finish, and is still very popular among the UW fanbase. And if it seems odd that he would get an interview for this kind of job at this stage in his career, keep in mind that UW needs to at least name an interim head coach to lead the team in its bowl game.

UPDATE: And then there is this, from Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Daily News:

Tuiasosopo interviewing probably comes as a surprise to some folks, but Wilcox does not. It was assumed from the start that Wilcox would be a logical candidate for the job. Word is that Sarkisian wants to take Wilcox with him to USC, but obviously, if he’s in contention for the UW job, it would make sense for him to pursue it as fervently as possible.
