According to a report by ESPN.com, Washington coach Steve Sarkisian interviewed over the weekend for the head coaching job at USC.

During his weekly Monday appearance on Sports Radio KJR with Mitch Levy, Sarkisian said that he met with USC athletic director Pat Haden, but said he wouldn’t describe it as a job interview because the Trojans aren’t that far along in the process.

ESPN also reported Vanderbilt coach James Franklin as another candidate for the USC job. Boise State coach Chris Petersen was apparently under consideration, but withdrew.

Sarkisian’s ties to USC are well-documented, and his name first surfaced in connection with the USC vacancy back in late September when Lane Kiffin was fired. That talk cooled some after UW slipped to 4-3, but with the Huskies 8-4 and awaiting a bowl invite, Sarkisian apparently is back on the Trojans’ radar.

He served first as quarterbacks coach at USC under Pete Carroll from 2005-2008, adding offensive coordinator to those duties his final two seasons. Sarkisian also coached quarterbacks at USC from 2001-2003 before a one-year stop as quarterbacks coach of the Oakland Raiders.

If SC is looking for a coach, why else would they want to talk to Sark? ESPN reported two finalists this week-end, then one of them pulled out. Who is Sark trying to kid?

By the way, I must admit–he has the Huskies moving in the right direction.
