It’s an odd week for Pac-12 football — spooky, even! Get it? — with four teams on byes. Plus, there are games on Thursday — it’s Halloween, if you haven’t heard — and Friday.
Strong performance against the spread last week, going 4-1 in addition to a straight-up record of 5-0. With that, away we go with another week of predictions. As always, betting lines are for entertainment (and gambling) purposes only, and come courtesy of VegasInsider.com.
Arizona State (5-2, 3-1 in Pac-12) at Washington State (4-4, 2-3), 7:30 p.m., ESPN (ASU by 11.5) — Sun Devils didn’t play so well against Connor Halliday and the Cougars the last time they visited Pullman back in 2011. And the Cougars played even worse the last time these teams played at all. Hard to imagine WSU has closed the gap all that much in a year’s time, even if a frigid Halloween night setting might be to their advantage. Sun Devils can’t let this one slip. The pick: ASU 42, WSU 28.
USC (5-3, 2-2) at Oregon State (6-2, 4-1), 6 p.m., ESPN2 (OSU by 5) — Does anyone believe the Trojans are going to win a Friday night game in Corvallis? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? OSU at home over USC is a safer bet than Mike Riley winning the postgame press conference. The pick: OSU 35, USC 24.
Arizona (5-2, 2-2) at California (1-7, 0-5), 12:30 p.m., Pac-12 Networks (UA by 16) — How do you know your team is struggling? When Arizona is favored to beat you by 16 points on the road. Ka’Deem Carey’s eyes will widen when he sees just how weak Cal’s injury-riddled defense has become. The pick: Arizona 38, California 20.
Colorado (3-4, 0-4) at UCLA (5-2, 2-2), 4:30 p.m., FOX Sports 1 (UCLA by 28) — Buffaloes have no chance, but it should be interesting to see how the Bruins respond to back-to-back losses to Stanford and Oregon. Better than UW? The pick: UCLA 55, Colorado 20.
Last week: 5-0 straight up, 4-1 against the spread. Season: 54-10, 39-24.
