Get the remote ready:

Can Johnny beat Alabama again?

This is likely to receive little coverage, so we’ll let you in on the secret here from: Alabama faces Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M this Saturday. True story. It’s useless considering possible outcomes considering those involved, particularly Manziel. It will be fun to see what Alabama has drawn up to slow down the no-huddle. And, how it deals with this week’s Yahoo! report of payments.

UCLA at Nebraska

The Bruins head to Nebraska a weekend after redshirt freshman receiver Nick Pasquale died last Sunday morning after being struck by a car in his hometown of San Clemente, Calif. Head coach Jim Mora said players on the team are grieving in different ways as the 16th-ranked Bruins prepare for the 23rd-ranked Nebraska.

How Oklahoma State moves on

The five-part series from Sports Illustrated alleging player payments and other transgressions at Oklahoma State from 1999-2011 was printed this week. The 12th-ranked Cowboys host Lamar on Saturday. Few are concerned about that matchup. The school will be running damage control for weeks.

Petty padding, making a name

Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty will help the Bears run over Louisiana-Monroe this weekend and continue to pad stats that should push him into the Heisman conversation. Petty is ranked No. 1 in the country in ESPN’s Total QBR. In simpler terms, the guy is 32-for-40 (80 percent) in two games with four touchdowns. Baylor has an easy schedule until it hosts Oklahoma Nov. 7. Everyone will know Petty by then.

How will Texas react?

So, after the second game you fire the defensive coordinator. Is that a bad sign? Assistants are always the fall guys when a head coach is on the ropes, as is the case with Mack Brown in Texas. After getting handled 40-21 at BYU last week, Texas, and its new defensive coordinator, host 25th-ranked Mississippi, which is averaging 35 points per game.

  1. What good Husky fan gives a rip about what happens to Texas, Baylor, and Oklahoma State this weekend? Arizona State is 8-0 all-time at Sun Devil Stadium against Big Ten opponents. Will they keep the streak alive after they play 20th ranked Wisconsin? Does the ASU Will Sutton led defense slow down the Wisconsin rushing machine?
