A week after hanging on against FCS opponent Southern Illinois, the Illini handled Cincinnati on Saturday. The Bearcats were coming off a 42-7 win against Purdue, but did not play well against Illinois.

Illinois blew out Cincinnati 45-17 behind another strong day for QB Nathan Scheelhaase. From the Chicago Tribune:

The general sense of doubt about Illinois football should have been enough incentive for the Illini on Saturday.

In case it wasn’t, Jonathan Brown added more fuel.

The senior linebacker distributed articles to his teammates Wednesday of all the naysayers predicting Cincinnati would blow out Illinois. They certainly motivated wide receiver Ryan Lankford.

“There might not have been one that said we would win this game,” Lankford said. “And we said to ourselves, ‘OK. It’s go time.”’

Surely, this has Washington’s attention. The Huskies face the Illini on Saturday at Soldier Field.
