Head coach, Chris Petersen

Hats off to Washington, they dominated us in all phases. We did some good things but we just couldn’t come together as a team enough. Our offense left our defense out there too much and we got tired. We didn’t get off blocks well enough, we ran the ball probably efficient enough, had nothing going in the pass game, throw it down field for I think the longest one was 16 yards, that’s not going to cut it.

I think the main thing is we have to get off blocks, they have a pretty big, physical offensive line and we have some new guys out there that will improve but I think that’s the main thing that I could see from the sidelines. We have to be able to get off blocks and hang onto the ball and not have so many three and outs and those types of things. It all goes hand-in-hand.

We missed a couple opportunities. They did a nice job of canceling our receivers out, we have to be able to get off press coverage. We didn’t get up field fast enough and when we did we didn’t hit it, a little bit of a combination.  It’s a good football team we just played without question but I know we can play better than we did. I know we have to get a lot better and we will.

It’s very disappointing. I think their defense will be one of the better defenses out there, I do think that, and I think we knew that going in.

Without seeing the tape I do think the run game was fairly effective but we have to have more off it. We have to have more play action and the receivers have to be able to get downfield.

At crunch time we didn’t capitalize. We put ourselves in a position to where you’d think we would be able to, but that’s why I am anxious to go put that tape on and I know the kids are too and the rest of the coaches.

We’re going right back to work. That what were going to do, we have to get better, we have to improve. I know we’ll put that tape on and look at it and say wow, we have to be a lot better than this.

They did a good job across the board. That front is pretty stout and they stopped us on short yardage but I thought their secondary did a good job of canceling our receivers out.

I think everyone got tired. They have some big guys that kept us covered up and those backs are good and Sankey can break tackles and hes good and get a crease, yeah, that can be a problem.

Ajayi…he’s a strong runner and I’m anxious to put the tape on and see how he did and what was there and wasn’t there.

LB, Corey Bell

Their offense a surprise?) I don’t think it was even really a surprise. I think they did just about what we thought they were going to do. They came out and gave the ball to Sankey. We just had a difficult time defending that and finding an answer and really stopping the run

What hurt you?) Swing passes-me personally I need to do a better job of getting out there and starting that tunnel and then we’ve just got to swarm as a defensive, everybody’s got to be running to the ball.

We’re going to look at it the same as any loss. Our coaches are going to come in, they’re going to get behind us and they’re going to help us get the attitude that we need to have. I mean, this hurts. But we’re going to come back next week and we’re going to be fighting just like we always do. That’s kind of the attitude we live by as broncos – just get back on your horse and we’re going to go.

Long drives-They were just frustrating. its just difficult to find a way to stop that. We were having a hard time.

QB, Joe Southwick

ON OFFENSE

I wouldn’t say it went that poorly, we just didn’t finish things. We moved the ball up and down the field a majority of the night, just got to finish those drives, get some more points.

ON THIRD DOWNS, KEY SITUATIONS

Every game’s going to come down to that. Playing a heck of a team in Washington — those guys were every bit as advertised. It comes down to those critical third, fourth downs.

ON IF OFFENSE LOST SOMETHING

I don’t know. I don’t want to get into that at all.

DID YOU HAVE ENOUGH TO KEEP THEM OFF BALANCE?

I think so.

ON UW DEFENSE

Coach Wilcox did a heck of a job, they did some different things. Hats off to them, they played well.

ON BOLDEWIJN/RECEIVERS

I think Geraldo did a nice job, I think a lot of the guys did a nice job. We’ve just got to get it done.

ON RIGHT SIDE OF LINE

I wasn’t getting sacked … I think we ran the ball all right. I think they did a good job in their first starts.

ON PISTOL OFFENSE

I don’t know if we made switch to it. That was the gameplan this week. We’ll see what we like for Tennessee-Martin.

GET FRUSTRATED?

No – I think we kept battling. Washington did a heck of a job. I think we fought hard as a group. The good news is we have 11 more to go, and this game will be far behind us in a couple weeks.

ATMOSPHERE

Awesome game to be a part of, no doubt. A beautiful stadium that’s been built. The energy was great and the noise was loud.

ON BIG PLAYS, OR LACK OF

I think if you’re on the field at that pace, 13 plays, it’s hard to slug it all the way down there.

ON SPEAKING W/WILCOX

I just said “good job.” He said “good job.”

I don’t know what a coach is supposed to say after such a loss, but….

“Our offense left our defense out there too much and we got tired.”

    …. is kind of lame.

How about if (made up quote) “Our DEFENSE left our defense out there too long and we got tired”?

How about if “The UW offense caused our defense to be out there too long and kicked our tired fannies”?
