There has been discussion about Washington taking the next step this season. Like the preseason coaches’ poll, the preseason AP poll shows it will be a challenge.

The Huskies have five preseason-top-25 teams on their schedule, including No. 3 Oregon and No. 4 Stanford. Boise State is ranked 19th, UCLA 24 and Oregon State 25. Of those five games, three — UCLA, Stanford and Oregon State — are on the road.

According to Pollspeak.com, here’s the breakdown of the Huskies’ votes:

Bob Asmussen, the Illinois football beat writer for the Champaign News-Gazette, has them 18th.

Eric Hansen, Notre Dame football beat writer for the South Bend Tribune, has them 22nd.

Greg Auman, USF writer for the Tampa Bay Times, has the 23rd.

Drew Sharp, columnist for the Detroit Free Press, has them 25th as does Jon Wilner, columnist for the San Jose Mercury News.

  1. The Huskies most likely didn’t receive 17 votes, unless of course they received 17 votes for 25th place. A first place vote gets 25 points, a second place vote gets 24 points, right on down to a 25th place vote getting 1 point.

You’re right. Bad language on my part. Thanks.
