Jermaine Kearse stuck on the Seahawks roster last year. This season, he’s trying to make an impact.

Percy Harvin’s injury has provided Kearse more opportunity. In Thursday night’s first preseason game, Kearse caught two passes for 31 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown.

His first catch was a 20-yard completion from Russell Wilson that Kearse described afterward as “routine.” His second catch gave the Seahawks the lead in the second quarter. This time Brady Quinn connected with Kearse.

“I had a post route and had some outside leverage and knew if I could push him out, I would be wide open,” Kearse said. “I just widened him and slipped inside and Brady threw a good ball.

“At first I thought it was Cover Zero, but I saw it was man coverage.”

Seahawks observers say that Kearse has had a good camp in his second year with the Hawks since being signed as an undrafted free agent. Kearse is second all-time at Washington in receiving yards.

“I’ve been working hard this offseason and training camp to go out there and show what I have been working on,” Kearse said. “Trying to get better every day. I know there are some plays on special teams I can get better.”

Desmond Trufant made his debut last night for the Falcons. He started at cornerback and had two tackles.
