Bad news for Colorado could be good news for UW hoops

Ryan Thorburn of the Boulder Daily Camera is reporting that the best defensive player in the Pac-12, Andre Roberson, has mononucleosis and is out indefinitely.

Thorburn updated his post with the official comment from Colorado, which was that Roberson had a “viral illness.” That’s what mono is.

This has large relevance to Washington, which is currently the six seed for the Pac-12 Tournament. Colorado is the No. 5 seed, and, if the Buffs split their final two games this week and the Huskies beat UCLA Saturday, or Colorado goes 0-2 to fall to 9-9 and the Huskies lose, Washington would own the tiebreakers over Colorado and move into fifth.

That’s a lot of ifs, but the odds of it happening were just tilted dramatically now that Colorado has to play 19th-ranked Oregon tonight and Oregon State this weekend without Roberson.
