Washington has added Georgia State to its list of 2014 opponents, pushing that season’s schedule to the NCAA maximum 13 games.
Here’s the non-conference set up for that season:
Aug. 30 at Hawai’i
Sept. 6 vs. Eastern Washington
Sept. 13 vs. Illinois
Sept. 20 vs. Georgia State
Georgia State, which is moving into the FBS and will play in the Sun Belt Conference in 2013, has several ties to Washington. Former Washington running backs coach Trent Miles (2005-07) is the head coach there. The quarterbacks coach is Luke Huard and J.D. Williams, another former UW assistant and older brother of Curtis Williams, is also on the staff.
Not sure how this non-conference schedule follows Washington’s preferred A, B, C approach to scheduling. The Huskies say they want to play a very difficult opponent, followed by a lesser opponent and a much lesser one in non-conference play. Barring a rapid resurrection of Hawai’i (3-9, 1-7) or Illinois (2-10, 0-8), none of these teams qualify as an ‘A’ opponent at this point. This is a grand opportunity for Washington to start 4-0 while breaking in a new quarterback.
