Welcome to pristine Matthew Knight Arena. A beautiful arena by any measure. Not so sure about the floor, however.
Washington gets its first big shot at one of the upper tier conference teams, part of four in a row against the big boys in the conference: Oregon, Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA. Game thread will be on the jump:
Washington closed the gap late, but never tied or gained a lead in the second half on the way to its third consecutive loss to fall to 4-3 in the Pac-12 after a 4-0 start. Oregon won its 20th consecutive home game and stays undefeated in Pac-12 play at 7-0. Andrew Andrews finished with 15 points to lead Washington. The Huskies played with much more ambition Saturday than the previous two, but still came up short. Oregon’s inability to hit free throws late caused the game to tighten significantly. Otherwise, Oregon controlled most of the night.
> Oregon is up 79-73 with 27 seconds to go and just called timeout. A late run and fouling strategy for Washington has helped it make the game closer.
> Wilcox hits a 3. 74-68 Oregon. Timeout Washington with 1:15 to go.
> Washington, down nine, misses two free throws and gets swatted on the break. Down 70-61 with 2:05 left.
> Under-4 timeout and this one is all but over with 3:59 to go. Oregon leads 70-56.
> Washington down 64-51 with 7:51 to go. Slight problem for Oregon is Loyd has 3 fouls, backup Moore 4. In control, otherwise.
> Under-12 timeout. Oregon leads 52-45 after Gaddy missed a layup and chance to cut it to five.
> Oregon throws the trap at Washington after a made free throw, gets a steal and score. Timeout Washington. Oregon up 48-40 with 14:24 to go.
> Under-16 timeout and Oregon leads 43-40 in a slow start to the second half for both teams.
> Oregon leads 37-33 at halftime. Washington is lucky to be so close. The Huskies turned the ball over 15 times in the first half. Its season-high for turnovers in a game is 16. Andrew Andrews leads Washington with 11 points. The Huskies shot 65 percent in the half. C.J. Wilcox is 4-for-5. No one on Washington has more than two rebounds. If Washington can take care of the ball, it has a good shot at pulling off a huge road win. Wilcox has 8, but is yet to get up a 3. His fewest 3-point attempts this season is 3.
> Emory sets off the dynamite again and Oregon leads 30-28 at the under-4 timeout. Washington continues to turn the ball over. Has 13 already.
> Under-8 timeout. Washington leads 24-23, playing with much more ambition today. Oregon O also mediocre in the halfcourt.
> Under-12 timeout and Oregon leads 15-14 with 11:51 left in the half. Suggs had a strong start and it has been Andrew Andrews since. Suggs and Andrews each have seven. Washington with 10 turnovers but leads by one.
> Under-16 timeout and Oregon leads just 8-7 despite multiple turnovers by Washington. Oregon’s backup PG turns it over on his first trip. Oregon starter Dominic Artis is out with a foot injury, which leaves Willie Moore in the rotation.
> Washington turning the ball over like crazy to start the game. Four right away. Scott Suggs only offense for Washington so far. Oregon leads 8-7.
> A violinist played the anthem and we’re about to tip off here at Matthew Knight where the Ducks have won 19 consecutive games.
> Washington going with usual starters of Gaddy, Wilcox, Suggs, Simmons and N’Diaye. Oregon with Loyd, Dotson, Kazemi, Singler and Woods.
