Opening: We came out very lethargic offensively tonight. It was like we were running in quicksand, mud. We weren’t moving our feet offensively. Same goes on the other end.

We did a great job of coming back and getting back into the game. a couple of turnovers were costly and missed a couple of assignments. They did a good job of running their offense. We’ve played against their offense before and there were some things that they were able to get tonight that we hadn’t given up in a few years, they were able to get those tonight. Shows a lack of concentration at times. Very disappointing.

Where does a bad start come from after losing to Utah? I don’t know. It shouldn’t have happened. Shouldn’t have happened.

What went well late in the first half to cut down lead? Something called energy. We started playing with more energy. I think Andrew was in there, he was pushing the ball,w e were just more active. Play with more energy. We don’t play with energy, we’re not very good. We play with energy, we can compete.

When you cut it to one, then what happened? Costly turnovers. Couple turnovers down the stretch. Couple missed assignments. Once we cut it to one, we weren’t able to get stops against them for us to get over the hump.

Veterans missing details, how do you fix that? We have to continue to show film, continue to talk about it. We just have to collectively step up.

Where’s the team right now following two consecutive losses after winning four consecutive? Well, this is a third of the league right now and we’re 4-2 and we’re about to play the team that’s playing the best in the league right now. We’re getting ready to find out where we’re at. We’ll go back home, practice tomorrow. Saturday, come back, hopefully have a better attitude and approach.

What did you say to the team and what do you need to see? Attention to detail and energy. On both sides.

Was the offense working? When you say the offense, to me, your offense could be working fine but the shots aren’t going in. To me, there’s a difference. When you say your offense is stagnant, to me, you that means you’re not executing. If you’re executing, things are going great, you’re getting great shots, it’s not the offense, you’re not making shots. With that being said, we didn’t execute tonight. Early on, we weren’t committed to what we’re supposed to be doing. We’d make one pass. We’d kind of half-heartedly make a cut and then just get away from it. We weren’t disciplined early on and that hurt us.

Is there a silver lining? Any time you come up with a reason, it’s an excuse. Fact is, our last couple of practices with the travel and the way things were going, kind of rushed, I was concerned coming into the game. Didn’t really get to hit this hard. By the time we get to the airport, guys get out of class, and I didn’t like how our practices went. I didn’t think we got to cover some things. Maybe, that had something to do with it.

Down 7-1 and called timeout, what weren’t you doing defensively? You can’t go under screens with Starks and Nelson and Schaftenaar. You can’t go under the screen, but we went under the screen. And, it was mind-boggling why we would do that. Because, last week, we weren’t doing that. All of a sudden, we come out and that’s just not what we practiced and not what we talked about for two or three days. After that, we did a much better job of getting the over the top of the screen. That early start, they’re going to burn you. I thought they executed their offense really well.

Was that indicative of what was to come in the half? Probably was. That’s kind of how we played. Even our free throws. We’ve been shooting free throws very well, 72 percent in league. Tonight, we’re not making our free throws. Those were all the signs that mentally, we just weren’t focused where needed to be.

What’s next? It’s a matter of being determined we’re going to do the right thing. Being determined that we are going to do the things that we’ve done already. This isn’t something that one day, we’re going to be able to do it. We’ve done the right thing. For several weeks we did the right thing, and, out of nowhere we’ve lost that concentration, lost that edge. We’ve got to regain that.

Is that doubly surprising considering you have such an older group? Yes.
