Video: Lorenzo Romar previews Arizona State, Pac-12 play

With the Washington men’s basketball team beginning Pac-12 play — and with football season in the books — our coverage on this blog will include a lot more basketball stuff going forward. Morning links: Plenty to read on New Year’s Eve

Justin Wilcox, Marques Tuiasosopo officially added to USC coaching staff

Apologies for getting to this late. Was out to dinner.

Anyway, what was expected for some time was made official on Monday night, as former Washington defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox and quarterbacks coach/interim coach Marques Tuiasosopo were announced as new members of Steve Sarkisian’s coaching staff at USC.

Wilcox will be USC’s defensive coordinator. Tuiasosopo will coach tight ends.

Bishop Sankey will enter the NFL draft

To nobody’s surprise, Washington’s star running back will take his talents to the NFL.

Bishop Sankey, who set the Huskies’ single-season rushing record this year with 1,870 yards and was a Doak Walker Award finalist, will forego his senior season at UW and enter the NFL draft, his father, Chris, confirmed on Monday.

Sankey, a Gonzaga Prep (Spokane) alum, leaves UW as the third-leading rusher in school history, and is tied with George Wilson for the most touchdowns in UW history with 38. Read more »

Quick hits: Chris Petersen’s new assistant coaches

Here’s some of what we included in our story for tomorrow’s newspaper about Washington’s new assistant football coaches …

— Pete Kwiatkowski, defensive coordinator – Spent the last four seasons in the same position at Boise State, and was BSU’s defensive line coach for four seasons before that. Also served as defensive coordinator at Montana State for six seasons.

— Jeff Choate, defensive line/special teams – Coached special teams under Petersen at BSU from 2006-11, then coached linebackers for one season at Washington State before accepting defensive coordinator job at UTEP, which he left before the 2013 season to coach outside linebackers and special teams at Florida.
