Head coach Chris Petersen, quarterback Joe Southwick, linebacker J.C. Percy,  and kicker Michael Frisina:

Petersen on Washington…
“We watched a lot of tape and we knew they were a good team. I said it earlier I don’t think all
7-5 records are equal across the board. These guys have beaten too many good opponents and
played too much good football that you start to get a gauge and I just knew it would be a really
tight game.”

On Final Drive…
“We wanted to score a touchdown. I thought we had a good play, and Joe actually worked the
opposite side. He liked the matchup better than what we were probably designed to go to.
After that… I felt very strongly he was going to make the field goal. I was more worried about
the snap than the field goal. They both did a great job.”

On Blocked PAT…
“No, it was not (the snap), it was a protection issue.”

On Williams-Rhodes return…
“He’s a football player, he’s got great instincts. The return was designed to go to the other side
and you could feel him rotate to fast and he hit it back across the field where it really wasn’t
supposed to go.”

On Frisina…
“I think you look across the country, and maybe it’s just me, it seems there’s a lot of
inconsistent kickers out there. And really quietly, Mike’s been doing a great job all season. Once
we got that yard mark figured out early on, he’s been like clockwork.”

On Southwick…
“He’s finally figured out that he has legs and can run. We said long ago he came in here as a
good athlete, as somehow as he’s getting through our program he’s turned into a bad athlete,
in his mind at least. That’s the main thing I was really pleased to see him run. Everybody knows
a scrambling quarterback can crush you and he made some big plays. I thought his whole game

was extremely clean.”

Southwick on the season’s progression and the bowl…
“I think the whole season our M.O. on offense was just getting better. And the most satisfying
thing about this season is each week you saw us get better.”
“The bowl game coming in, we knew Washington was going to be was as good as an opponent
as we could face. They should that on the field today, hats off to them for doing a great job.”
“We knew it was going to be a four-quarter game. We knew that you couldn’t beat this team in
two quarters.”
“All year I’ve known I can play at this level, it’s just a lot of work, a lot of moving parts, working
together to fit the puzzle together. The last three or four games it’s really showed. We’ve been
really executing on offense at a high level. It’s just been awesome.”
“Sometimes you get into a robot mode when you’re a quarterback at this level because
technically somebody should be open. It’s one, two, three – someone should be open. But in
the game of football it doesn’t work like that. Being able to not see the first guy, feeling some
pressure and seeing a running late and hitting it, it’s just going back to instincts of playing
football. It was awesome being able to use (my legs).”

On 3rd down conversions
“That’s just a testament to our guys staying cool, staying calm, staying poised, understanding
the play-call we were trying to run and then executing it.”

Percy on Bishop Sankey…
“He was doing a good job at finding holes in our defense. He’s a great back, he showed it all
year and he was able to run hard and break tackles and use his elusive moves to get away from
us.”

On 17 tackles
“It was a great way to end it (my career), especially with a win and to be able to go out with all
these seniors as 4-time bowl champions. I’m so proud to be a part of this program the past five
years. It’s been a great thing in my life.”

Michael Frisina on game-winning field goal…
“Every kicker’s dream to hit a game-winning field goal. For this one to come in my last collegiate
game, couldn’t ask for anything more.”
“I knew I made right when I hit it. I don’t know where it ended up; I just know it went through
the yellow posts.”
