Tonight at the Raise the Woof celebration, head coach Steve Sarkisian announced the team captains for 2012 season. They are:
Desmond Trufant, senior, cornerback
Trufant, a Tacoma native, has been the best cornerback in the program since he stepped on campus in 2009. He has played in all 38 games of his career, while starting the last 35 straight at corner. He had 64 tackles last season and was named honorable mention All-Pac-12. He also was named the recipient of the UW’s Don James Perseverance Award at the team’s postseason banquet.
Drew Schaefer, senior, center
Schaefer is a fifth-year senior from Sammamish, Wash. He enters his final college season having started 30 consecutive games on the UW’s offensive line. He started all 13 at center last season and started 11 at center and two at right tackle as a sophomore in 2010. As a redshirt freshman in 2009, he was the starting left tackle in the last four games of the season.
Keith Price, junior, quarterback
A fourth-year junior from Compton, Calif., Price set numerous records last year in his first season as the Huskies’ starter. He broke long-standing school records for touchdown passes (33), completion percentage (.669) and pass efficiency (161.09) and his 3,063 yards were second-most in UW history. Playing nearly all of the season with various leg injuries, he was honored with both the Earle T. Glant Tough Husky Award and the Guy Flaherty (most inspirational) Award at the UW’s postseason banquet.
Sean Parker, sophomore, safety
Parker, a junior from Los Angeles, started all 13 games at one safety spot as a sophomore in 2011, posting 91 total tackles, second-most on the team. He wrapped up the 2011 season with 15 tackles in the Alamo Bowl.
John Timu, sophomore, linebacker
Timu is a sophomore from Long Beach, Calif. After sitting out nearly two seasons of football due to injury, the former high school quarterback emerged as a starting linebacker for the Huskies as a true freshman last year. He started eight games and finished the year with 52 tackles.
