Note: At the end of the video you will notice how truly ADD that Dawgaman’s Kim Grinolds while doing interviews.
The second last practice of spring was pretty spirited with players in full pads. That meant more hitting and a few chippy moments as well.
On the injury front, the Huskies got some good news as senior center Drew Schaefer practiced at a full go after being sidelined for part of the spring with a knee sprain. Schaefer took the reps as center on the first-team offensive line that also consisted of Micah Hatchie at left tackle, Erik Kohler at left guard, James Atoe at right guard and Ben Riva at right tackle.
That left the second team offensive line at: LT Dexter Charles, LG Ben Teichman, C Mike Criste, RG James Atoe and RT Ross Dulbec
Guard Sifa Tufunga, who suffered a broken hand on Wednesday, will have surgery on the hand tomorrow.
WR James Johnson was back practicing, but wearing the red no contact jersey. Officially, we aren’t sure of his injury. Sarkisian said he had his bell rung, which I have been criticized for saying. Sarkisian has never said Johnson officially has a concussion. So we can say Johnson had a head injury, but is back practicing.
Defensive end Talia Crichton, who has been battling a knee sprain, was carted off the field. But it was because he was feeling a little run down after battling the flu. Sarkisian said a flu bug has been going around the team. Taz Stevenson and Jermaine Kearse have both had issues with it.
Nate Fellner continued to work as the starting “Sam” linebacker and I would expect he will start in Saturday’s spring game
Speaking of the spring game, with only eight healthy linemen, Sarkisian said the spring game will be an “offense vs. defense” into separating into two separate teams. This is becoming more common with teams not having quite the depth of the past.
The scoring for Saturday’s game at CenturyLink for the defense will be three points for a stop, five points for a turnover and seven for a touchdown. The offensive scoring will be as usual.
Also there will be no practice report on Friday since practice is closed to the media.
