Tumwater defensive lineman Jamie Bryant gave an oral commitment to play football for the University of Washington on Wednesday night.

Bryant, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound junior, picked the Huskies over Washington State, Nebraska and Portland State.

“I didn’t want to leave the state to play football,” Bryant said. “I wanted to go somewhere where my family and friends could see me play.”

Bryant is a two-time all-2A Evergreen Confernence pick on the defensive line. He helped the Thunderbirds to the Class 2A state title in 2010.

Should he honor his commitment to the Huskies for their Class of 2013 recruiting class, Bryant will be the second in his family to play for a NCAA Division I team. His older brother, Hank Bryant, signed with Idaho in 2007.
