The Alamo Bowl took on some added luster today, when Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III was awarded the 2011 Heisman Trophy.

Griffin’s next appearance on a football field will come in the Dec. 29 bowl date in San Antonio against the Washington Huskies.

“I think it would be great for the bowl, obviously,” UW coach Steve Sarkisian said Saturday, a few minutes after his team concluded practice and about an hour before the Heisman was awarded. “It’s already a tremendous matchup: two high-powered offensive football teams and teams that generate a lot of excitement. I think it will be tremendous for the fans that are in the dome, but also for the national stage. A prime-time game with the country watching: It should make for an exciting game.”

Griffin will become the first reigning Heisman winner to face the Huskies since Washington defeated Michgan and Desmond Howard, 34-14, in the 1992 Rose Bowl.

  1. 1000 yards of offense and 8 td’s against the Huskies…possible?
