We just heard from coach Lorenzo Romar previewing the Huskies’ game Sunday against Washington State.
He said there would be no rotation changes for the game, including C.J. Wilcox remaining in the starting lineup and Venoy Overton coming off the bench. Romar said he thinks players like Wilcox and Scott Suggs (who could return next week) make things easier on Isaiah Thomas by forcing opposing defenses to worry about the other guard. But Romar also said Overton helps Thomas by allowing him to play without the ball more often.
Romar said he expects to the Cougars to present the same zone defense that gave the Huskies such trouble in Pullman. But obviously he hopes his team handles it better.
Taking the bigger picture of the Pac-10 race, Romar said a lot of things would still have to happen for the Huskies to catch Arizona — which lost to USC last night and will visit UCLA tomorrow. Romar said the Huskies have to take care of their own business and not worry about watching other scoreboards. Although he admitted an interest in what will play out at Pauley Pavilion tomorrow.
And taking in the bigger picture still, Romar said he doesn’t feel his team is “on the outside looking in” regarding the NCAA tournament … but again, that they had better continue to win.
