The Huskies went through two practices today. The morning session involved a lot of red-zone offense and defense. The evening session starts at 6:45.
One of the highlights of the morning was an interception by safety Will Shamburger at the goal line. “Heck of a play there,” coach Steve Sarkisian said. “Will has just kind of carried over from spring ball. He’s been impressive all the way through.” However, Sarkisian said he hasn’t seen much to separate the candidates to play safety opposite Nate Williams, noting that Shamburger brings more coverage and Nate Fellner more physicality.
Sarkisian said linebacker Cort Denison is healthy enough to practice and wants to practice, but is being held out as a precaution and to create additional work for other middle linebackers.
Sarkisian also said No. 2 quarterback candidate Keith Price has loosened up in his sophomore season and seems to be having more fun. “That growth from year one to year two with any player in huge, and we’re seeing it with Keith,” Sarkisian said. “His understanding of out system is huge.”
Washington holds a single practice today at 3 p.m., before returning for the final two-a-day practices of fall on Thursday.
