The Huskies will debut black basketball uniforms in their game tomorrow against Washington State. And they’re hoping fans will too … right up to providing black T-shirts for some.
Here’s the release from the school:
The Washington Husky game at Bank of Arena against Washington State this Saturday at 12:30 will be Black Out Cancer Day at UW.
The players will wear specially designed black uniforms as part of the event and all fans are encouraged to wear black to the game to show support for cancer awareness. All fans seated in the lower bowl will receive a black Husky t-shirt, while the first 1,000 fans into their upper bowl seats will also receive a t-shirt.
The coaches from both Washington and Washington State will also be wearing white sneakers as part of the 2010 Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend — Friday, Jan. 29 through Sunday, Jan. 31.
College basketball coaches nationwide will wear sneakers with their sideline attire to raise cancer awareness and remind fans that by making healthy lifestyle choices, such as regular exercise and a healthy diet, they can reduce their own cancer risk.
The American Cancer Society will have a table in the concourse to accept donations and will be holding a silent auction where fans can bid on Coach Romar’s shoes and an autographed Husky basketball. In addition, the black jersey worn by Harry the Husky will be autographed by the entire team and auctioned off on GoHuskies.com on Monday, Feb. 1.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a collaboration of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
