Links: Holt says Boyles could play; Mays criticized

Defensive coordinator Nick Holt made his weekly appearance on KJR with Dave “Softy” Mahler. And he had a few interesting things to say. One of the more surprising things was the current transition of Anthony Boyles.

Boyles made the transition from wide receiver to corner back this week and has the UW coaches pretty excited, so much so, that he may play next week.

“Corner is a great opportunity is for him,” Holt said. “Don’t be surprised to see him in there against UCLA.”

It seems like a good idea considering that UCLA’s leading receiver Taylor Embree is 6-3, 205 pounds, and Broyles also 6-3 could match up better than the Huskies’ shorter corners.

Here’s a few other highlights from the conversation.

  • He loves Everette Thompson’s effort, but is frustrated about his ankle injury issues.  And said, in a different situation Thompson may have redshirted.
  • Jason Wells is ready to go, and we’ll see him against UCLA
  • He gave himself the grade of a C as a defensive coordinator this season
  • Holt wasn’t sure if linebacker EJ Savannah is having surgery today or not (I haven’t heard that as I type this).  But Holt still expects to be in the lineup against UCLA.
