As I mentioned in a story today, the UW men’s basketball schedule keeps getting more and more interesting.

The non-conference schedule already holds such interesting opponents as LSU, Gonzaga and Pepperdine. Now, the conference schedule appears ready to open with a bang.

The unofficial Pac-10 schedule shows the Huskies opening conference play Dec. 28 at USC, which would mark the first Pac-10 game played at the Trojans’ new 10,258-seat Galen Center.

Two days later, the Huskies are scheduled to visit UCLA for an early season match of two projected conference contenders.

The Pac-10 expects to release its complete men’s basketball schedule in about two weeks.

Meanwhile, Washington continues to search for a big-name road opponent for the coming season willing to make a return visit to Seattle in 2007-08.

Discussions with Missouri are stalled due to lack of commitment by television networks. The Huskies also are negotiating with schools from the Big East Conference.

Coach Lorenzo Romar’s team will begin its basketball season Nov. 12 as host of the Basketball Travelers’ Classic at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.
