Six-foot-4 guard Tim Morris will play the 2007-08 season with the Huskies after walking away from his scholarship with Stanford.
"It’s not the ideal situation for either," UW coach Lorenzo Romar said. "But he is, No. 1, a very good basketball player. Really, No. 1 he’s a great kid; No. 2, he’s a great basketball player. He’s willing to pay his way if a scholarship is not there. He really liked our situation, and he wanted to finish out in this type of environment."
Romar is in a unique position to know about Morris – the two are second cousins. In fact, Romar says he didn’t recruit Morris very hard while at St. Louis because he didn’t want to pressure his young relative.
At that time, after starring at Whitefield Academy in Atlanta, Morris chose Stanford. He redshirt in 2003-04, averaged 7.4 points in 12 games in 2004-05, and averaged 5 points in 30 games and eight starts last season.
He will sit out the coming season, lose one season of eligibility due to Pacific-10 Conference transfer rules, and will play his final college season in 2007-08.
