Closure starts today on Sprague Avenue for demolition work

Construction crews have closed part of South Sprague Avenue as they continue to demolish the old Nalley Valley viaduct.

The northbound lane of Sprague will be closed between South 35th Street and South Tacoma Way from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. through the end of the month. The closure begins today.

Constructions crews may extend the lane closure in hours and days, depending the on demolition work, the state DOT reports.

Expect delays along Schuster Parkway on Saturday

Drivers could experience some delays along Schuster Parkway on Saturday as crews work to remove a potentially hazardous tree.

The work begins at 10 a.m.

The City of Tacoma reports that northbound and southbound traffic will be stopped for up to a half-hour for the tree removal work. In addition, crews may need to block one southbound lane until 12:30 p.m. to clean up the debris, the city reports.

Northbound drivers will be stopped at South Fourth Street. Southbound drivers will be stopped along North 30th Street at Starr Street. Southbound drivers along Schuster Parkway will be halted at McCarver

Portion of I-705 to close overnight for construction work on Murray Morgan Bridge

A portion of Interstate 705 in Tacoma will be closed overnight for four days this week as crews work on restoring the Murray Morgan Bridge.

The northbound lanes of I-705 will be closed between Pacific Avenue and Schuster Parkway tonight and Tuesday night. The southbound lanes of I-705 will be closed Wednesday night and Thursday night from Pacific Avenue to Schuster Parkway.

Each closure is scheduled to last 12 hours. The closures will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 7 a.m. the following morning.

Drivers will be detoured around the closures.

UPDATED: Ramp from SR 167 to I-5 closed today for repairs

UPDATE as of 1:15 p.m.

The state DOT has extended the closure to 2:30 p.m.

ORIGINAL POST:

The state DOT will close the ramp from southbound state Route 167 to southbound Interstate 5 today for emergency pavement repairs.

The ramp will be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Drivers who want to get onto southbound I-5 should get on the freeway at Portland Avenue.

Lane of SR 167 near Emerald Queen closed for repair work

The state Department of Transportation has closed one lane of northbound state Route 167 near East T Street and the Emerald Queen Casino this afternoon so crews can remove a light pole.

The right lane of the road will be blocked off from noon to 3 p.m.

The pole is near a sinkhole.

Drivers going north on SR 167 should expect delays near East T Street.

Rolling slowdown this morning on I-5 for pothole repairs

Drivers heading south on Interstate 5 in Tacoma this morning might get caught in a rolling slowdown.

The Washington State Patrol and transportation crews began the rolling slowdown at 9 a.m. at the Puyallup River Bridge. It ends just north of 38th Street.

The rolling slowdown will give maintenance crews time to repair several potholes on the highway.

The slowdown is expected to end at 9:45 a.m.

Tacoma roads look ‘pretty good’

Reporter Stacey Mulick just checked in with Mark Fulghum, the spokesman for the Tacoma Police Department. He had nothing to report in terms of accidents or road closures, and he said the main roads looked “pretty good.”

He added that there are lots of empty parking lots.
