Closure starts today on Sprague Avenue for demolition work

Construction crews have closed part of South Sprague Avenue as they continue to demolish the old Nalley Valley viaduct.

The northbound lane of Sprague will be closed between South 35th Street and South Tacoma Way from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. through the end of the month. The closure begins today.

Constructions crews may extend the lane closure in hours and days, depending the on demolition work, the state DOT reports.

More nighttime closures on I-5, SR 18 in Federal Way this week

More nighttime closures are planned this week on Interstate 5 and state Route 18 in Federal Way.

Washington State Department of Transportation crews are still installing steel girders for a pair of new flyover bridges as part of a $112 million project. The ramps – one between westbound SR 18 and the other between eastbound SR 18 and northbound I-5 – are scheduled to open this fall.

Here are this week’s closures:

– The two right southbound lanes on I-5 will close at 10 p.m. tonight and reopen at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Expect delays along Schuster Parkway on Saturday

Drivers could experience some delays along Schuster Parkway on Saturday as crews work to remove a potentially hazardous tree.

The work begins at 10 a.m.

The City of Tacoma reports that northbound and southbound traffic will be stopped for up to a half-hour for the tree removal work. In addition, crews may need to block one southbound lane until 12:30 p.m. to clean up the debris, the city reports.

Northbound drivers will be stopped at South Fourth Street. Southbound drivers will be stopped along North 30th Street at Starr Street. Southbound drivers along Schuster Parkway will be halted at McCarver …

ALL CLEAR: Crash blocks two lanes of I-5 in Federal Way

A crash that was blocking the two left lanes of northbound Interstate 5 in Federal Way has been cleared, the state DOT reports this morning.

Backups remain.

The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. just north of 272nd Street.

Drivers traveling through Federal Way this weekend should expect delays.

The state Department of Transportation will be closing all lanes of southbound Interstate 5 at state Route 18 by 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights. They will reopen at 7 a.m. each morning.

The closures are to allow crews to begin installing large steel girders over I-5 for two new flyover ramps. Cranes will be used to lift the girders into place.

Other closures for the weekend include two northbound I-5 lanes near SR 18. The first lane will close at 8 p.m., the second lane will close at 9 …

Log truck rolls over, driver unhurt on Key Peninsula

Key Peninsula fire crews responded to a rolled over log truck this morning on state Route 302.

The driver of the truck was out of the rig and not injured, Key Peninsula Assistant Fire Chief Guy Allen reported.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the crash on westbound SR 302 at 118th Avenue Northwest about 6:30 a.m. They found the log truck had rolled onto its driver side.

The truck was empty and completely off the road, laying partially in a ditch, Allen reported.

The Washington State Patrol responded and troopers were investigating the crash.

Portion of I-705 to close overnight for construction work on Murray Morgan Bridge

A portion of Interstate 705 in Tacoma will be closed overnight for four days this week as crews work on restoring the Murray Morgan Bridge.

The northbound lanes of I-705 will be closed between Pacific Avenue and Schuster Parkway tonight and Tuesday night. The southbound lanes of I-705 will be closed Wednesday night and Thursday night from Pacific Avenue to Schuster Parkway.

Each closure is scheduled to last 12 hours. The closures will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 7 a.m. the following morning.

Drivers will be detoured around the closures.

CLEARED: Car fire blocks all lanes of westbound SR 512 near Waller Road

A vehicle fire is blocking all lanes on westbound state Route 512 near Waller Road, the state Department of Transportation reported.

The fire was reported about 8:15 p.m. It’s unknown when the lanes will clear.

UPDATE: All lanes reopened at 8:45 p.m., WSDOT said.

UPDATED: Ramp from SR 167 to I-5 closed today for repairs

The state DOT has extended the closure to 2:30 p.m.

ORIGINAL POST:

The state DOT will close the ramp from southbound state Route 167 to southbound Interstate 5 today for emergency pavement repairs.

The ramp will be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Drivers who want to get onto southbound I-5 should get on the freeway at Portland Avenue.

Dock Street closed today, Friday
