On ramp from SR 16 to northbound I-5 to close at 11 p.m. for repair work after crash

The on ramp from state Route 16 to northbound Interstate 5 will close at 11 p.m. tonight as crews work to fix damage from a crash this afternoon, according to the state Department of Transportation.

An errant vehicle damaged an accordion-like device that’s designed to absorb energy from crashes into barriers and other fixed objects, according to the state.

The ramp will reopen by 4 a.m. Friday.

Further details about the crash itself were not immediately available.

CLEARED: Backups on eastbound SR 512 and northbound I-5 after wreck

A car wreck at eastbound state Route 512 and Portland Avenue East is causing a three-mile backup, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The crash, which happened about 3:15 p.m., is also causing a backup on northbound Interstate 5 from Bridgeport Way Southwest, department officials said.

Troopers are on the scene.

All lanes are open.

UPDATE as of 3:45 p.m.: All lanes are cleared, but a four-mile backup remains, according to the state Department of Transportation.

INITIAL POST: A crash that happened at 12:45 p.m. just north of Bridgeport Way on southbound Interstate 5 is causing mile-long backups on both southbound I-5 and state Route 512, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The two right lanes of southbound I-5 are blocked.

State Patrol troopers are at the scene.

5 nighttime eastbound SR 16 closures planned starting tonight, end next Thursday

Eastbound state Route 16 will close at Union Avenue tonight at 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. Friday.

Signs will detour vehicles off SR 16 at Union Avenue, and will lead to Interstate 5.

SR 16 will also close from 12:30 to 5:30 a.m. Saturday, and from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. again starting Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The closures are part of the I-5/SR 16 Eastbound Nalley Valley project to replace the original section of eastbound SR 16 that went over Nalley Valley.

Crews will be doing girder setting work.

CLEARED: Crash blocking lanes of southbound I-5 near 84th Street South

A crash on northbound Interstate 5 at Berkeley Street is blocking all lanes of the freeway, according to the state Department of Transportation. Traffic is being detoured off at Berkeley.

INITIAL POST: A crash on southbound Interstate 5 at 54th Street East in Fife is causing a backup, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The HOV lane is blocked, and emergency responders are on the scene, WSDOT officials said at 3:30 p.m.

CLEARED: WSDOT says crash on northbound I-5 by SR 512 causes backups as far as Bridgeport Way

A semi-car crash on northbound Interstate 5 just south of state Route 512 caused a 13-mile backup Monday afternoon and took three hours to clear.

The State Patrol said the crash happened about 3:30 p.m. when a car slowed to change lanes, which caused another car to slow and a semi to hit the vehicles. The cause was being investigated. Four people were injured, one seriously, the State Patrol said. The wreck was cleared by 6:30 p.m., at which point there was still about a 10-mile backup, according to the state Department of Transportation.
