Snoqualmie Pass closed for rock blasting

The Washington State Department of Transportation reports that I-90 is closed in both directions for rockblasting near the Snoqualmie Pass summit.

Eastbound traffic is stopped at milepost 54 near Hyak, westbound traffic is stopped at milepost 61 near Price Creek.

WSDOT says an estimated opening time cannot be determined until after the rock blast effort takes place. They’re saying expect at least an hour delay.

Southbound lanes of Schuster Parkway to close May 28-July 19

To allow for improvements to an existing retaining wall, southbound lanes of Schuster Parkway will be closed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, May 28 to July 19. One southbound lane will be open after 9 p.m. Northbound lanes will not be affected.

Detour signs will direct traffic from southbound Schuster Parkway to South 4th Street, Dock Street and to downtown or I-705 via the South 15th Street ramp.

Carbon River bridge closed to commercial vehicles

Washington State Department of Transportation bridge crews have determined that effective immediately, no commercial vehicles will be allowed to cross the State Route 165 Carbon River Bridge until further notice.

The restriction was prompted by the discovery Thursday afternoon that one of the four vertical legs supporting the bridge’s approach span has loosened from its concrete footing. WSDOT bridge crews are en route to the bridge to examine the support and determine what repairs will be necessary before the restriction can be lifted.

Tacoma Link will extend hours for Fleetwood Mac

Sound Transit will operate extended hours for Tacoma Link on Monday, May 20, to accommodate crowds leaving the Fleetwood Mac concert at the Tacoma Dome.

The last northbound train will depart the Tacoma Dome Station at 12:00 a.m.

The concert begins at 8:00 p.m.

Sound Transit buses and Link light rail trains will operate on a regular weekday schedule.

Delays tonight on Hood Canal Bridge

Between 8 p.m. tonight and 6:30 a.m. tomorrow, work crews will repeatedly open and close the Hood Canal Bridge draw span to test its control systems.

Each opening will close the bridge for as long as 30 minutes.

The Washington State Department of Transportation will have live information about the status of the bridge on its web site. Camera images and other information are available on the Hood Canal Bridge web page.

Sounder trains added for soccer, baseball games this weekend

Sound Transit is adding extra Sounder trains this weekend for Seattle Mariners and Sounders FC fans.
Special Sounder service will operate in addition to regular Link light rail service to and from the stadiums.
Special Sounder trains will provide service to the Sounders FC vs San Jose Earthquakes 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday. Game day trains will also serve the Mariners’ game against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.
Seattle-bound trains will depart Lakewood at 10:45 a.m. Return trains depart King Street Station 35 minutes after the end of the games.

Work will close lanes on Narrows bridge

From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, May 7-9, crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will close two westbound State Route 16 lanes across the 1950 Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The two remaining westbound lanes will stay open through each night.

During the lane closures, crews will continue work to remove original steel rivets from the bridge’s westernmost expansion joint in preparation for replacing it. They will use pneumatic rivet busters to shear off the heads of the rivets, punch the rivet stems out of the steel joints, and replace the rivets with bolts.

Street closures planned for May 5 marathon

This from the City of Tacoma:

To accommodate the Tacoma City Marathon on Sunday, May 5, there will be restricted access to most City streets for the duration of the event from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Detour routes will be posted.

Street closures: North 26th Street between Adams and Proctor streets.

Restricted access: Southbound lane of Ruston Way and the northbound lane of Schuster Parkway, including the I-705 off-ramp and from 7th Street and Pacific Avenue to Ruston Way.

City of Ruston: Various residential streets will be closed in Ruston.
