UPDATE: Motorcycle-truck crash injures man, blocks lanes of Auburn Way North

UPDATE as of 2:45 p.m. Monday: Auburn police spokesman Mike Hirman said the motorcyclist is still at Harborview, with injures that are serious, but appear not to be life-threatening. He said it seems a Dodge Dakota truck turned left in front of the motorcycle, and that there’s nothing to suggest speed, alcohol or drugs were involved.

INITIAL POST: A man suffered life-threatening injuries in a motorcycle-car crash about 6:15 p.m. in Auburn, according to the Valley Regional Fire Authority.

The motorcyclist, about 30, was taken to Harborview Medical Center. The driver of the other vehicle wasn’t injured.

Nighttime closurs on northbound I-5 in Kent this week

Nighttime closures on northbound Interstate 5 in Kent are planned this week while crews take up to ¾ inch off all lanes on the freeway, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The closures will occur nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Thursday between South 308th and South 260th streets.

Similar closures are planned through April from South Military Road to South 260th Street.

WSDOT said the work will smooth small pavement cracks and wheel ruts to help the 50-year-old freeway last until it can be replaced. There are no funds for the repairs at this point.

Final ramp opens today as part of Federal Way Triangle project

The final piece of the Federal Way triangle project will be open to drivers by noon today, according to the state Department of Transportation.

A ramp now connects state Route 18 to state Route 161, which will lessen congestion for those trying to get from the Kent valley to Federal Way’s business district.

The ramp drops drivers south of two busy intersections on South 348th Street, including state Route 161 and Pacific Highway South.

It took crews two years to complete the $112 million project. The first set of new ramps opened in July.

CLEARED: Collision on southbound I-5 in Milton blocking HOV lane

UPDATE at 4:10 p.m. All lanes are now open, WSDOT reports.

INITIAL POST” A collision is blocking the HOV lane on southbound Interstate 5 in Milton, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The accident occurred about 3:45 p.m. just south of the Federal Way weigh station at milepost 140.

Washington State Patrol troopers and paramedics are on scene.

President’s visit Thursday means interrupted bus service in downtown Seattle

A visit from President Barack Obama Thursday means increased security in Seattle, which will affect buses for Sound Transit and King County Metro Transit.

Pedestrians will not be allowed in Convention Place Station in the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Buses will still travel through the station but will not stop there. Passengers will not be allowed to get on or off buses in the station, or access the tunnel from the CPS entrance at 9th Avenue and Pine Street.

Officials said passengers may board and exit buses at the other four tunnel stations.

ALL CLEAR: Southbound I-5 in Kent blocked by incident

UPDATED at 11:24 a.m.

All lanes of southbound Interstate 5 in Kent have reopened after they were blocked earlier because of a truck fire, the state DOT reports.

The on-ramp from South 272nd Street also was blocked. Firefighters responded to the scene and doused the flames.

The incident backed up traffic for more than a mile.

Westbound SR 18 to close Saturday for repair work

A four-mile stretch of westbound state Route 18 will be closed Saturday so crews can replace a large section of guardrail damaged in January.

Westbound SR 18 will be closed between Interstate 90 and the Tiger Mountain summit from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the state DOT reports.

The eastbound lanes will not be effected by the work.

DOT urges westbound drivers to use Interstate 5, 405 or other local roads to get around the closure.
