INITIAL POST: A section of Interstate 90 in Snoqualmie Pass will close this morning for avalanche control, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Crews will shut down the eastbound lanes at 10:30 a.m. The closure extends from milepost 56 near Gold Creek to milepost 61 near Price Creek, about four miles east of Snoqualmie Pass’ summit.

It’s unknown how long the work will take.

A few last road closures are scheduled on Interstate 90 this week as crews wrap up construction for the season.

Snoqualmie Pass will shut down from 5-6 p.m. tonight and Tuesday while state Department of Transportation workers remove loose rock from the roadway.

Officials say that should be it now that the wider westbound lanes between Hyak and Rocky Run Creek opened Friday.

The work zone should be completely gone by next month, WSDOT reports.

It was part of a $551 million project to widen a five-mile stretch of the highway from four to six lanes.

Drivers who sped through the work zone on Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass should expect to receive a citation in the mailbox this week.

The state Department of Transportation said the first batch of tickets from the automated speed enforcement camera was sent to 169 vehicle owners caught between Sept. 17-21. The citations are $137.

More evening closures are planned this week on Interstate 90 in Snoqualmie Pass.

Crews with the state Department of Transportation are planning to shut a section of the highway from 6:30-7:30 p.m. this week to remove rock from the slopes above the road.

The closure will extend from Hyak at milepost 54 to the Price Creek Sno-Park at milepost 61.

Drivers are advised to expect delays.

WSDOT has also installed automated speed-enforcement cameras in the 5-mile construction zone on I-90, which issue $137 fines to drivers traveling over 60 mph.

Drivers planning to head over the Snoqualmie Pass this weekend are advised to add 90 minutes onto their travel time.

UPDATE: The rock blasting is finished and the road is open in both directions, according to WSDOT.

INITIAL POST: Rock blasting has closed Interstate 90 east of Snoqualmie Pass, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation about 8 p.m.

Westbound traffic is stopped by Price Creek at milepost 61, and eastbound traffic is stalled by Hyak at milepost 54.

WSDOT won’t know when the road will reopen until after the blasting is finished, but recommends travelers add an extra hour to their trips.
