Crews begin SR 161 lighting and signage project near Eatonville, traffic will alternate through end of the year

Workers will begin adding lights and signs and re-striping about 10 miles of State Route 161 Monday between Ohop Valley Extension Road to about 304th Street East.

Traffic will alternate between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and again from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday. On Fridays traffic will alternate between 9 a.m. and noon and again from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday.

The project will continue through the end of December.

Key Peninsula boat launch at 72nd Street to close for 5 days starting Monday

Rehabilitation of the ramp at the 72nd Street boat launch near Long Branch on Key Peninsula South will close the structure from Sept. 24 to 28, according to Pierce County.

The project involves replacing the ramp’s concrete panels.

Alternative launch sites during the closure include A Street KPS in Home, Hall Road in Vaughn, and Randall Drive Northwest by Gig Harbor, according to Pierce County.

Girder setting to continue closures of eastbound SR 16, Union Avenue ramp at night starting Monday

Crews will continue to close eastbound state Route 16 at night starting Monday through Oct. 4 as they set girders for a new bridge from southbound Interstate 5 to South 38th Street as part of the I-5/SR 16 Eastbound Nalley Valley project.

The eastbound highway will close at 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Union Avenue and will reopen at 4 a.m., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

It will close at 12:30 a.m. Saturdays and will reopen at 5:30 a.m.

Nighttime I-5 lane closures near DuPont expected to start today, last through mid-October

Work starting today to replace 4.5 miles of old Interstate 5 median barrier will close up to two lanes of both the north and southbound freeway at night between Mounts Road in DuPont and Berkeley Avenue in Lakewood.

The work will start in DuPont and move north, and should finish by mid-October, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The project requires that the inside lane of both north and southbound I-5 be closed simultaneously to make room for workers and equipment, and sometimes that two lanes in one direction be shut down.

Expect Stevens Canyon Road delays, closure as roadwork continues

Drivers should expect 20 minute delays on Stevens Canyon Road until Sept. 4, when the road will close early for winter.

Work is continuing on the rehabilitation project that affects about 10 miles of the 19 mile road that connects the east and west ends of Mount Rainier National Park.

The project includes resurfacing the road and fixing up bridges, tunnels, turnouts, retaining walls, guard walls, culverts and a section of the Wonderland Trail adjacent to Reflection Lake.

I-5 lane closures may delay northbound traffic Saturday morning

Lane closures for work to replace concrete panels on Interstate 5 may delay northbound traffic Saturday morning, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Northbound I-5 will be reduced to one lane between South 48th and South M streets in Tacoma from 10 p.m. today to 10 a.m. Saturday.

That lane will be routed through the South 38th Street collector/distributor lane.

Paving to start today on Auburn street; expect delays

Auburn city crews will begin paving 116th Avenue SE between SE 304th Street and SE 312th Street today.

The work is expected to last two days. Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Although the road will remain open during the paving, traffic may be reduced to one lane with alternating one-way traffic at times. Delays are expected.

Crews are repairing damaged pavement along the street, according to the city.

112th Street East reopens after month-long closure in Puyallup

A section of 112th Street East in Puyallup that closed June 25 for construction has reopened, according to Pierce County Public Works.

The affected road is between Fruitland Avenue East and Woodland Avenue East.

Crews lowered the road five feet and installed sidewalks, curbs, gutters, pavement and drainage systems. The work is finished other than an asphalt protector that will be applied this fall if the weather holds.

Also this fall, workers will make improvements on a one-mile stretch along 112th Street East between Fruitland Avenue East and 86th Street East.
