SR 7 in Eatonville closed through November

Crews today will shut down a five-mile stretch of state Route 7 in Eatonville so they can build a debris containment wall to ward off landslides like the one that closed down the highway last year.

The closure will be between Alder and La Grande. About 1,600 drivers use this stretch of road daily, according to the state Department of Transportation.

A detour leading traffic down state Route 161 and Alder Cutoff Road will be in place through November. WSDOT said the detour will add an extra 15 minutes to trips through the area.

Crews are building a permanent

Lingering backup on westbound I-90 near Ellensburg adding two hours to Snoqualmie Pass travel

A 20-mile-long traffic backup is adding an extra two hours to the westbound journey across Snoqualmie Pass, the state Department of Transportation is reporting.

The traffic snarl began early Monday afternoon, and it is expected to last at least through later Monday night.

The state is advising motorists to consider taking White Pass or Chinook Pass to reach Western Washington instead of Snoqualmie Pass or Stevens Pass.

The backup is in an area that construction crews have been working to eliminate landslide risks on the highway.  That construction had closed down the pass in recent weeks during a short period

Work on I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass wrapping up for the year

A few last road closures are scheduled on Interstate 90 this week as crews wrap up construction for the season.

Snoqualmie Pass will shut down from 5-6 p.m. tonight and Tuesday while state Department of Transportation workers remove loose rock from the roadway.

Officials say that should be it now that the wider westbound lanes between Hyak and Rocky Run Creek opened Friday.

The work zone should be completely gone by next month, WSDOT reports.

It was part of a $551 million project to widen a five-mile stretch of the highway from four to six lanes.

The first three miles
